I am fed up with being made to feel like I am a real cow because I buy clothes from Boden, it isn't as if I am stealing the food from a child is it????????

Plus3- I agree, it doesn't really matter, we are what we are, and wearing clothes shouldn't label us (but it's a laugh catagorising isn't it?- Boden lends itself to a tribe so easily)

ThingOne- yeah Joules? that is really a label, like the green wellie barbour brigade - and much though I like some of the paterns, I don't like the JOULES label all over the place. Fat face is ok though. HA BOFF- we all fall for it!

I'm a Guardian reading, Lib Dem voting, Cornwall holidaying white middle class person. And I have some Boden in my wardrobe. It looks fine along with the White Stuff, M&S and whatever.

But Joules as a less middle class option? Do I really want to look as if I have just come in from a gymkhana? No way,

It's the strange fact with Boden that the kids' stuff wears well but the women's stuff is just shoddy.

Every item I have ever bought in the past for myself looked ok until it's first wash then it looked colour-faded and lost shape and often shrank, making the tops even shorter than they were to start of with.

electra · 18/05/2008 12:03

The roll neck tops - fantastic really - never look worn.

I agree Gobbledigook - that is one of the great things about Boden. It washes really well - I only buy that and Gap stuff and dd2 has worn all of dd1's hand me downs and they still look great.

It's not poorly made kitty - that's why ds3 is wearing stuff that both his older brothers have worn. That's not the case with any Tesco clothing they've had - I always end up binning it after one season. False economy to buy cheap crap.

ho hum...does it really matter? Yes I wear some Boden, but also some monsoon, next, M&S, Hobbs...do I need to list all my clothing sources?? I like some Boden, some of it is really quite horrid. I read the guardian, we holiday in norfolk and cornwall, but have done since children (DH Norfolk, me polzeath..we used to stay in the caravan park there )

Stereotypes are just that..they don't apply to everyone and to just instantly dismiss someone because of the clothes that they wear, or the car they drive etc is soo intolerant and dull.

I love Boden - it's an institution......LOL

But the ladies clothes are dull, dull, dull

i'VE done it, ive bought a boden top for DD - does that mean i fit in now (i live in one of the bodenesque places listed by blue)

LEM wonders if it is too naff to put the top on inside out so people see the label - or will they just KNOW

I love buying Boden clothes for my children. I find the boys clothes, particularly shorts wear very well so that while they are more expensive they are good value as they last so long (my boy is now at the age where he gets at least 2 yrs wear out the clothes). I also love buying the girls clothes for my daughter. I think many of the clothes are a bit pricey but if you buy a year ahead in the sale and sell the clothes on Ebay after they have worn by your children you will actually recoup a lot of your outgoings..whereas some Next clothes are quite expensive but do not wear as well and do not attract such good bidding on Ebay!!
I buy my daughter a few pretty dresses and patterned items from Boden and then buy a few plain t-shirts from Next to go with them.

We have had several holidays at the Bedruthan Steps hotel and found it amusing how much Boden stuff is worn there..Johnnie should go there to shoot his catalogue!

The OP is not unreasonable. People should be able to buy what they like for themselves and their children without being criticised. I have also found that Boden is one of the few places you can buy more traditional boys clothes that are not covered in logos or skulls!

LOL I had never heard of boden just googled their catalogue.

And have just discovered where my good friend buys all her clothes! Also her 3 DD's are definitely clad in this stuff - how funny!

And she conforms to pretty much all of the stereotypes people have written!

She is nice though not evil. As far as I know...

I did wonder Kitty if the recent mid season sale was in part due to economic slowdown.
Boden haven't done one for a few years.

Yes well it'll all change soon. When the price of living gets really hard most people won't be able to afford to chuck away their money on such overpriced, poorly made stuff.

Emperor's new clothes, that's what Boden is.

Love this thread...

SilentTerror- spot on!
I'm sure some people wear it to make a satement about the kind of person they are.
You can spot Boden patterned stuff a mile off..

Fun spot, sassy, Johnny, flippy, swishy, funky, slinky- those words get me, and the descriptions of the stuff.
And when you ring up( yep have bought children's pj's there) the answerphone has Johnny on it- eugh!

The patterns are very LOUD and NOTICEABLE like some of the people who wear them.

If i could aspire to any catalogue "look" it would be the understated stuff from Toast.
I got a top on ebay by them and it's gorgeous.

Have to disagree. The kids clothes are miles nicer than Next. Much better quality after a million washes. Agree you can't tell a T shirt apart but the skirts, tops and coats scream Boden. I have to fess up that I'm wearing a Boden skirt now that's three seasons old and still good as new! BTW where is Matalan, I've never seen one?
