Feeling the effects of Sertraline on the first day? 🤔

SnipperSnapper · 01/05/2018 22:45

I was prescribed Sertraline today for anxiety & depression, I took my first dose this morning - I felt a little nauseous & drowsy at first but now for the last few hours I feel giddy & hyper. (For perspective i have the headphones on & I’m listening to rave tunes kinda dancing & doing house work - last night I was crying over the kitchen table, I hit a really scary low)

Now I’m not complaining about how I feel, I feel good & like I’ve got my mojo back but the Dr told me I wouldn’t feel any better for at least a month, I don’t think it’s the placebo effect as I really was not expecting to feel like this ....I think my fear is this an initial side effect (and not me feeling better) and once it passes i’ll Crash again.

Anyone else feel this after just one day?

I didn't feel hyper but I felt really weird a bit woozy a bit high and sick I took mine at night after the first 2 days.

BossyPaws · 01/05/2018 22:49

Yes, and then by the end of the second week I was an emotionless robot who really couldn't give a fuck about anyone or anything. Sorted the anxiety out but made me even less of a person than I already was.

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 22:50

I felt great on it. It certainly didn't take me a month to feel better. Unfortunately I couldn't tolerate the side effects.

Teeniemiff · 01/05/2018 22:50

I’ve not been on sertatline but know people who have been & some say they feel effects straight away.
but I wonder if gps say that incase people have been taking it a week or so & haven’t had an effect

ilovechocolates · 01/05/2018 22:51

Seetraline kept me from sleeping, ie a max of 2hrs a night so I stoped taking them after a week or so- under advise of the GP and swapped to another drug that helped me sleep.

RomeoBunny · 01/05/2018 22:52

Watch out for your ability to navigate social boundaries disappearing. Also your impulse control/internal guilt sensors/etc will just fade away in to the background.

Oh... and good luck having any orgasms after 3 weeks Grin

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips · 01/05/2018 22:53

First day on them I felt woozy, nauseous and was struggling to stay awake during the day then awake all night. I stuck with them and I found they really helped my anxiety which in turn lifted my mood.

Chimchar · 01/05/2018 22:55

I took one tablet and had the shits for the best part of a week....Confused
I can't tolerate the side effects...I hope that they work for you and that you're on the up soon. BrewCake

NC4Now · 01/05/2018 22:55

The orgasms come back though.

Wolfiefan · 01/05/2018 22:57

Yep. The shits. Them's the side effects I mean. Blush

lambdroid · 01/05/2018 22:57

My first dose, I felt super high, pupils massively dilated, heart racing etc.

It calmed down pretty quickly and then took a while and a lot of dose increases for it to touch my anxiety at all. I think I started at 50, got up to 200 or whatever the max dose is and then started to taper off after about 2 years. Stopped totally at 12ish weeks pregnant.

It was great for me and really, really helped me get a bad phase of anxiety and panic attacks under control but only once the dosage was right.

Good luck with it!

Bambamber · 01/05/2018 22:58

You may find the effects level out over the next couple of weeks. When I first started it I felt like a kind if nervous excitement, a sort of shaky feeling as if I wanted to bounce of the walls. Then after a week or so I hit an all time low, then over the next few weeks it sort of levelled out. Not saying thats what will happen to you, just my experience

FastWindow · 01/05/2018 22:59

Does anyone know anything about Mirtazipine? I'm googling a bunch of stuff and some of it rings true.

Basta · 01/05/2018 22:59

I can't really remember how I felt when I first started taking it (a bit dizzy perhaps) but it's fantastic now - no side effects at all, unlike Mirtazipine which made me feel like I'd downed a bottle of vodka after only one tablet.

Ive been on it about 3 weeks now. The only thing I've noticed is mental, vivid dreams

FastWindow · 01/05/2018 23:04

Basta did you get Mirtaz prescribed and hate it?

SnipperSnapper · 01/05/2018 23:06

Haha I’m more worried about the way it’s ‘changed’ my taste in music 😆 I’m a rock chic and I don’t even like rave lol 😎

whereswaldo · 01/05/2018 23:08

I had exactly this- felt amazing from day one (bit of tooth grinding and diarrhoea) but stopped within the week.

I've been on it for 4 months and still great.

FastWindow · 01/05/2018 23:09

Well snipper all music has its merits. Just don't go into the world of thrash metal. That way doth earbleed lie Grin

Laying my cards on the table, if anyone wouldn't mind. I was signed off with depression. Had to go back to work as (brilliantly) the insurance company decreed that work was the problem, and they wouldn't continue the payout as work had to fix it. Thanks, AXA.
So I'm surface fine. Fire bad, tree pretty.

But DH is not fine. Doesn't sleep. Poor sleep hygiene anyway, he's a TV hound. Got prescribed Mirtaz. Took it like a headache tablet (ie, on and off) now fully off and he's a wreck.
Sorry to hijack. Just wondered if anyone has anything similar re side effects of suddenly stopping.

SnipperSnapper · 01/05/2018 23:20

Oh that sounds scary @hercules, hope everything is ok now ....orgasms changed for better or worse?

I was lightly blissed out within hours of taking my first tablet (50mg), grinding my teeth and everything. That lasted for about 4/5 days then levelled off nicely. I was mightily relieved it kicked in so quickly!
4 months in and all still good (unless I forget to reorder in time and have to miss a couple of days - that's BLOODY HORRIBLE.)

CaptainCabinets · 02/05/2018 00:43

I’ve just started on amitriptyline (for neuropathic pain rather than for MH purposes) and it’s making me nauseous, lethargic and groggy in the mornings! I’ve also broken out in zits Blush although that doesn’t seem to be listed as a side effect so could be a shit coincidence.
