Autism assessment - can anyone point me in the right direction? [TITLE EDITED BY MNHQ]

Posting for Aibu traffic.
I've googled and only found vague information and I have no friends or acquaintances who are in our situation to ask.
This week we have dc's autism assessment, we have no idea of what to expect. We know there will be 5 people on the panel and that dc will be 'assessed' but what is actually going to happen? Does anyone here have any personal experience or know any websites where I can find this information? Right now all I have found is a vague 'a panel of 5 professionals will assess your child'.
Any help much appreciated, thank you.

When my children were assessed, they were observed playing in a room, then a couple of people from the panel tried to engage with them. I was interviewed and then the panel met to decide if a diagnosis would be given.

Putting "autism assessment" in title might help? Ask mnhq to edit? Titles a bit vague else

TruJay · 01/05/2018 20:42

youcant thank you for your reply, how long would you say the assessment lasted? They don't test you're child on their triggers so they? That's one thing I'm worried about.

Graphista how do you do that?

No they didn't test any triggers, they were more observing their social and play skills. They asked me a lot of questions about triggers and routines, how they react to certain things and how well they sleep etc. We were there for about 4 hours I think

TruJay · 01/05/2018 21:46

Thank you, that's really helpful, exactly what I was hoping to hear.
4 hours Shock my gosh, dc will be frazzled after 4 hours!

'Report' function to contact them and ask them to change the title? Hopefully get more of the right traffic then?

I think there's a section for parents of children with additional needs too. I'm sure several of those mners would be able to help.
