To think Matthew wight is correct

Metoodear · 01/05/2018 19:54

So Matthew Wright is correct

The chase guest said in a conversation about woman’s rights that Paris lees used to be a boy

Now Matthew was told to apologise on the guests behalf despite the show receiving no complaints he asked why he should considering no complaint has been made and the guest was factually correct Confused

Husband has now hit peak trans he was the one who pointed this out to me

I really liked that show. I can’t see it working with another host (it’s usually crap when they have a guest). Pleased he refused to apologise for someone else (who has ASD) telling the truth though. Nobody has even complained! It does feel like this whole gender business is getting rather Orwellian...

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/05/2018 20:43

NapQueen I think Anne was trying to be funny.

NapQueen · 01/05/2018 20:45

Well then she has a crap sense of humour.

Metoodear · 01/05/2018 20:47

Our rights as women are being taken away to pacify a very small group of men

And the left so desperate to show how #woke they are

Are allowing it

BlowAnne · 01/05/2018 20:47

Good on you Matthew!

MissTeri · 01/05/2018 20:48

I think Anne was trying to be funny. I agree but it fell completely flat, it was cringy and awkward. You could feel the tension through the TV screen! I do think Anne should have apologised after the show, not for saying she used to be a boy, which is factually correct but for using that point to make a poor attempt at a joke. I don't think Matthew has anything to apologise for (if he has been asked to).

Ucantarguewistupid · 01/05/2018 20:49

He was totally right. Good for him refusing to back down.

NapQueen · 01/05/2018 20:51

Its like having a debate with someone who used to be a redhead, now bleaches their hair blonde and the counter debate (about something unrelated) "well you used to be ginger, so you must know".

Truscum · 01/05/2018 20:52

Anne has autism, black is black and white is white to her. I think from her perspective it made perfect sense. It seemed more to me that she was saying to someone she was disagreeing with, 'Well you were a boy, perhaps that's given you more insight into this topic (old boys club) than me.'

The only issue I have with that article is it says Paris transitioned while they were at University. As I understood it, the process actually began while there were in prison for a violent crime (that has been erased from history pretty much) I don't really like it when Paris is painted as a modern day saint.

There is nothing wrong with stating the truth.

ShirleyValentineswall · 01/05/2018 20:54

Apparently there were other reasons for him leaving.

WomaninGreen · 01/05/2018 20:55

I didn't think Anne was trying to be funny
I hope Matthew has resigned over this because it will be helpful

I really respect his integrity if he has.

A pp said he apologised the next day
He didn't did he? That's the point. Someone else presented the show the next day because he refused to apologise I thought.

Sunnymeg · 01/05/2018 20:55

Anne Hegarty has Asperger, as have members of my family. To them a fact is a fact and that's the end of the matter. She probably stated it as a fact with no malice at all. It's a matter of public record after all.

Gemini69 · 01/05/2018 20:56

I'll miss Matthew Wright Sad

I don't he'll have to wait too long until he has another Channel snapping him up Grin

Mousefunky · 01/05/2018 20:57

He did apologise at some stage or another, I remember watching it. He apologised to anyone watching who had been offended for the comment made. I was quite astounded he didn’t jump in when she said it tbh, there was just an awkward stoney silence. He’s usually good at knowing when to jump in but failed there.

TheHandmaidsTail · 01/05/2018 20:57

Not it isn't NapQueen

It is like a brunette saying to a blonde - people don't take the piss out of gingers. And the blonde who was previously ginger saying "yes they do". And the brunette saying "well you used to be ginger so yes you would know better than me"

Which is correct.

Someone who was born male will have been part of a boys club (however much they felt they didn't fit in) more than a woman ever could. That's just true.

Anne could have said it in a different way, but she was correct.

Wisdens · 01/05/2018 21:00

Love it! So AH is being lauded on here for saying a truth about PL. However in the desperation to have a go at trans people, everyone is missing that AH was dismissing ‘the old boys club’ in boardrooms excluding women and PL was taking the feminist view.

No transphobia on MN?

Springnowplease · 01/05/2018 21:00

Well done to him.

Joanna57 · 01/05/2018 21:06

I watched that episode from beginning to end.

Paris was a PITA through the entire episode, as par her/his usual self.

Anne had obviously had had enough of her/his constant put downs and mealy mouthed comments.

Anne was NOT trying be funny, she was being deadly serious. Good for her.

Truscum · 01/05/2018 21:06

I am trans.

And I didn't say I agreed with AH about the 'old boys club'. But that she didn't say anything false or transphobic.

We aren't all severely allergic to the truth you know.

MissEliza · 01/05/2018 21:07

I'm gobsmacked Shock. Hey maybe he can replace Jeremy Kyle!

gawdsake · 01/05/2018 21:08

No mention of anything to do with Anne Hegarty according to the beeb

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5678057/Matthew-Wright-announces-departure-Channel-5s-Wright-Stuff-18-years.html

Interesting article on DM mentioning it.

" Immediately after the show ended Matthew was summoned to a 'crisis' meeting with Channel 5 honchos, who were ' terrified 'by the spectre of a Twitter backlash from the trans community.

The former newspaper columnist was ordered to broadcast a pre-emptive apology on his next day's show - despite the fact there had not been one complaint.

'They were freaking out, terrified of getting flak from the trans lobby. It never happened,' confided a source. "

Wisdens · 01/05/2018 21:15

Truscum

I didn’t say AH was transphobic. However, what AH said about boardrooms can not in anyway be seen as a feminist viewpoint. However, that seems to be overlooked, and AH lauded, as she managed to have a low jibe at PL. That’s seems transphobic by some MN posters to me.

WomaninGreen · 01/05/2018 21:21

Wisden that's a separate thread though surely?
This thread is about anne saying Paris used to be male.
