AIBU to be fuming about period "joke"

I’m likely answering this myself by admitting I’m feeling intolerant today
DH not listening to me is particularly annoying today. He’s just wandered in with jam sandwich, no plate, spilling crumbs (always tells kids off for this) then when I mention his inconsistency he wobbled hiis belly at me (meaning my belly is fat) and said “it’s a jam sandwich. How ironic”
Jam being a delightful reference to periods.
I’m ok to eat chocolate and rage inwardly right? Won’t be making his tea now

Ewww that’s disgusting!

alexande · 01/05/2018 18:45

What?

grumpy4squash · 01/05/2018 18:45

You could say "Bloody twat. How ironic."

motorpink · 01/05/2018 18:46

How is jam a reference to periods

RomeoBunny · 01/05/2018 18:46

I would find that repulsive to be honest. Is he always so grim?

Justinecase1985 · 01/05/2018 18:46

Are you annoyed about the crumbs or the period reference?

Polkadot1974 · 01/05/2018 18:48

No. Not always so grim at all but it’s foul right? He’s very embarrassed about bodily functions and very prudish so this is a weird and vile thing to say to me. I’ve already used the bloody twat line but didn’t pick up on it as a very clever line at the time. Arse.

I’m annoyed about the period more than crumbs!

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 01/05/2018 18:48

He sounds like a 12 year old boy. What exactly do you see in this twat?

Flippetydip · 01/05/2018 18:49

He sounds horrible.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 01/05/2018 18:50

He actually doesn’t sound very nice at all.

Topseyt · 01/05/2018 18:50

Just shove the jam sandwich up his arse. See how funny he thinks it is then.

Polkadot1974 · 01/05/2018 18:51

Apology just received
He’s ashamed now he thinks about it.
Does everyone have this once in a while when the partner says something very odd and very horrible?

OP posts:
Bramble71 · 01/05/2018 18:51

Eugh. What a horrible thing to say to his wife. I'm not surprised you're upset.

OohMavis · 01/05/2018 18:53

This wouldn't bother me at all, but every relationship is different.

Glad he's apologised.

Grasslands · 01/05/2018 18:55

I’ve never heard of jam and periods being referenced together. Not sure how the wobbly belly fat fits into periods either.

Polkadot1974 · 01/05/2018 18:55

OohMavis you’re right - it’s not enough to be a red flag to my relationship but just bloody annoying. What a clot...
See if I have time I can get the “jokes” in myself...

OP posts:
InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 01/05/2018 18:57

Maybe I'm being extraordinarily thick but I don't get it....

sockunicorn · 01/05/2018 19:07

it wouldnt bother me at all but i would find it very odd. its almost laughable how bizarre it is. So the "Joke" wouldnt bother me and i would probably laugh out of pure "what the fuck". But the crumbs I would have made him hoover and told him to go get a plate.

motorpink · 01/05/2018 19:10

I have read your OP several times and still can't see where you get periods from a jam sandwich Confused

Nothisispatrick · 01/05/2018 19:10

I don't even get it, jam is nothing to do or like periods. Not a very clever joke.

VanGoghsOtherEar · 01/05/2018 19:11

he wobbled his belly at me (meaning my belly is fat)

This would upset me more than the jam joke tbh

HeartCurrent · 01/05/2018 19:15

Heard it years ago in school the lads used to call sanitary towels Jam Butty's for everyone saying they can't make a connection to periods, horrible reference Shock
Glad he's apologised op Wink

Ski40 · 01/05/2018 19:15

God. The more I read these threads the more I like MY husband 😆

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 01/05/2018 19:17

The reference comes from the term "jam rag", which referred to the rags women used back in the day before sanitary towels were available/affordable.
