to be hacked off with buying can openers

Seriously, they used to last me a year or two. We're not heavy users of cans but I'm buying one a month on average and they don't work that well to start with. Buy them from lots of different shops and at different prices and they are ALL rubbish! Angry

Agreed. I've been through two in the last year - and most cans have ring pulls now so it shows how crap they are if they break after so little use!

I want one like my mum has. It is attached to the wall, must be at least 45 years old and still works perfectly every time.

Kismett · 01/05/2018 10:05

If I get frustrated with kitchen utensils breaking, I buy the OXO version the next time. I'm sure there are some OXO products that are no good, but I haven't met one yet!

motorpink · 01/05/2018 10:06

One a month!!!

I haven't even used one in years.

loobylou10 · 01/05/2018 10:07

Same OP! I said exactly the same thing to my husband yesterday. We bought an expensive one last time and that’s useless too.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 01/05/2018 10:07

Agreed! I had a cheap cheap one I bought on holiday in Hungary and it lasted ten years. I was genuinely peeved when it eventually died because all the other ones seem to break after five minutes!

QueenofSerene · 01/05/2018 10:08

Haha no, I got ragey at mine the other day and bought a new one because I was over it. I found myself avoiding cans without ring pulls where I could because our can opener was so shit! So happy with the new one (granted it’s now a different brand/style so I hope it lasts longer considering I rarely use them).

GrimSqueaker · 01/05/2018 10:13

Ours is on the blink I noticed last night and I rarely use the damned thing.

RexManning · 01/05/2018 10:15

Our Brabantia one has been going strong for about 14 years.

Madbengalmum · 01/05/2018 10:15

I buy magican culinare products and find they are very good.

DougFargo · 01/05/2018 10:18

Wtf are you doing to them? I have a crappy ikea one its lasted a decade.

Buy ring pull cans or work out what you are doing to destroy the bloody things?

Abetes · 01/05/2018 10:21

I’ve got a Culinare magican too. Works well. £4.99 from Ocado.

Shmithecat · 01/05/2018 10:23

I've had an Ikea one for 5 years. It still works.

HazelBite · 01/05/2018 10:25

I've had a Culinare one too for ages

fatbottomgirl67 · 01/05/2018 10:25

What do you all do to them??? Bought a good grips one 15-20 years ago and its still in use. Hopefully will see us out !

nancy75 · 01/05/2018 10:27

I can't even remember the last time I used a can opener, but I know the one in the kitchen drawer is at least 10 years old - are you doing something weird with them (The mind boggles!)

Pebblespony · 01/05/2018 10:30

I totaly agree! I got so mad I bought an old edged one on Amazon. Its not one with a wheel. Only problem is it turns the cans into lethal weapons with the edges.

GrimSqueaker · 01/05/2018 10:30

Ours is an Ikea one that's basically thrown in the towel at the sight of one can of tuna.

Triskaidekaphilia · 01/05/2018 10:30

I got rid of one that had lasted me 7 years and my grandad god knows how long before that, when I got my new kitchen and bought a big set of matching utensils and gadgets. New one broke within 6 months and I regret not keeping the old one so much :(

Oysterbabe · 01/05/2018 10:30

We just have a standard one, probably IKEA, and it's been going at least 4 years.

IAmMotherOfDragons · 01/05/2018 10:38

We got quite expensive ones which all broke within months. then I saw a basic one in the local market..... its lasted about 7yrs so far and only just starting to "slip". Its a basic all metal one and was 99p!!!

I hate ring pulls on tins, after seeing someone slice their hand open while opening one they give me the cringes!!!!
