to think Paloma Faith releasing a single off the back of her advert for Skoda cars is actually pretty naff?

Presumably she got paid hundreds of thousands at least for the endorsement.

Now she's released the song she sings on it "Make your own kind of music" as a single.

Is this a thing now? I don't like it.

I agree op- I thought she was cooler than that

Goingalonenow · 01/05/2018 11:36

Nothing naff about a Skoda!!

Midthreademergencynamechange · 01/05/2018 13:57

Just to be clear, I don't know anything about cars and have no opinion on whether Skodas are naff or not! Just that PF has released a single on the back of her TV exposure via an advert. The old Levi's adverts just had old previously released hits as their background music didn't they? Don't even get me started on the whole bloody John Lewis Christmas advertising charade.

I blame M&S - didn't they start it all with Shirley Bassey and Get the Party Started?

BuntyII · 01/05/2018 15:13

I really don't like Paloma Faith, I find her a bit try hard. And her name sounds like papilloma Confused

I’m trying very hard not to be offended that you didn’t read my post on the first page. Wink

To repeat. The Levi’s Spaceman ad came out in December 1995.

Babylon Zoo released the single in January 1996 as the lead single from their debut album.

To repeat, you are twenty years too late get annoyed about this.

EdgeOf17 · 01/05/2018 15:17

Shirley you legend! I have spent over 20 years feeling robbed after I bought the single Grin

Lethaldrizzle · 01/05/2018 15:18

Amazing this is not the same. Paloma is already an established artist

@AmazingPostVoices

Oops, I must have missed it too, I take it back about blaming M&S.

I can imagine there were a lot of confused/annoyed people buying that song solely for the chorus as the rest is nothing like that at all (I like it).

EdgeOf17 · 01/05/2018 15:18

Totes agree Bunty I can't stand her

MissionItsPossible · 01/05/2018 15:19

@EdgeOf17 Who's Shirley?

Wildlingofthewest · 01/05/2018 15:19

Yes it is naff, but then it’s Paloma Faith. She is bloody dire.

MissionItsPossible · 01/05/2018 15:19

Oh did you mean Shirley Bassey? I'm tired, have had a long day Sad

MissionItsPossible · 01/05/2018 15:20

She sings like she has her mouth full but I do like some of her songs. I do sing in her style though:

"When you come closh, I just trumble"

derxa · 01/05/2018 15:22

God she’s insufferable She is annoying.

EdgeOf17 · 01/05/2018 16:06

mission I was referring to shirleyvalentineswall (excellent name!) Who posted the link to Spaceman

Shaboohshoobah1 · 01/05/2018 16:10

It’s possibly the worst song I have ever heard. I had no idea it came from an advert, but it’s fucking crap wherever it came from

Hygge · 01/05/2018 16:26

Why is it selling out to have a song on an advert?

I know some advert songs are annoying but I don't get why it's seen as selling out.

DS hates that Ain't Nobody song on the Tui advert and I can still remember years ago someone in the news complaining that her wedding song was ruined by being on a Bisto advert.

She probably had a point because Oleta Adams singing Get Here always makes me think of gravy now and Robin Beck's First Time is and always will be about Coca Cola.

And Moby had an entire album on adverts I think.

But I don't know why people making money though songs on adverts is a bad thing on it's own. Is it worse than whatshisname from Night at the Museum being on the sofa advert and talking about home being better than work?

AmazingPostVoices · 01/05/2018 17:40

That’s true Lethal but she’s hardly the first established artist to allow their music to be used for marketing purposes.

Why do you think musicians allow their work to be used for films or theme tunes - because it makes them money. This is no different.

It’s their livelihood, it’s hardly unreasonable.

ShirleyValentineswall · 02/05/2018 21:40

No problem EdgeOf17, happy to be reminded of it. I've yet to ask my cousin about the record so I will find out what other mixes there are.

MissionItsPossible · 04/05/2018 05:43

Guess what the radio alarm has just woken me up to Angry

TheDrinksAreOnMe · 04/05/2018 08:59

The song is cringe. I couldnt care less if its on an advert or what, its just.....urgh
