To ask you to find me a dress for a shotgun wedding!

Was due to elope in October and I'd started to make my own dress.
However, I found out last week I'm pregnant again, so we're bringing it forward to 4 weeks time (eep!). I'm not fussed about a having a big wedding, but childish as it sounds, I've always dreamed about having a beautiful wedding dress. I'm very girly but have never, ever had an excuse to dress up, or wear something gorgeous and I'm determined to do so just the once!

I'm still going to finish my dress, even if it's only so DD(7) can have it when she's older (FAR too many hours have gone into it, I've done so much embroidery). There's not a chance in hell it'll be finished in 5 weeks though.

Budget is tiny - about £100 - as I've already spent on material for the original dress, and there's a baby to save for now.
I'm size 12, 5"4, prefer sleeves and a "fit and flare" style as I've got fat arms/stomach - but am open to other suggestions.

Pic attached is what I've been recreating, only with sleeves (to give an idea of what "look" I like), but I realise I'm not going to get anything like this for my timescale and budget!
Wedding is simple registry office, in-n-out job, but the building is very pretty and rural.

Please throw your ideas at me, I'm so crap at this!

Typo there - to clarify, it's 4 weeks not 5!

The gown you’re making sounds beautiful btw. I think you should check out needle & thread dresses in ebay

TheIsland · 29/04/2018 15:12

I’ve seen a few on etsy?

Laska5772 · 29/04/2018 15:16

Dose it have to be white?
This is nice, Blue ( but £50 over your budget )

rainbowgrimm · 29/04/2018 15:17

Your dress is beautiful, no option to make it simpler to get it finished in time?
Assume you've checked monsoon, asos etc?
Pretty but not a patch on the one your making www.johnlewis.com/french-connection-lucille-embroidered-dress-daisy-white/p3316167?sku=237111839&s_kwcid=2dx92700028127680323&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2pXXBRD5ARIsAIYoEbdVtJUA-nC44H5ecC79S9fD5EeMjdjFUGoHQ__jyMbgfwy81VF9O_IaAgUSEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

www.asos.com/prd/8480334 obviously with something nicer underneath

thewayoftheplatypus · 29/04/2018 15:22

This is in the ASOS sale for £48 and reminds me of a more modest version of your original dress- although I would want to put a longer slip underneath it!!

Haha, great minds think alike, rainbow!

cunningartificer · 29/04/2018 15:30

If you search embroidered long dress on eBay there are some gorgeous things. Especially one sheer mesh embroidered one you could wear over a plain shift? I can’t link to it but will try and attach pictures

Could you pay the £100 to a dressmaker to help you finish the one you already stated?

Tp4mybung · 29/04/2018 15:45

Looking through links now.
Thanks so much everyone, there's way more around than I thought - I never do much clothes shopping so I was stumped on where to look.

I think it would cost a lot more than £100 to get a dressmaker to finish, as there's just so much embroidery. I've found the numbers for a few local dressmakers, so I'll ring around and see if any of them have any ideas re: simplifying it.

I think I may be edging towards just buying one though. I'd started to add lots of little details to the embroidery that were personal to us and I think I've become quite protective of it. DD has even done some bits of it, so I'm starting to think it's too precious to let anyone else (even a much more skilled than I professional!) near it. Although that could be the hormones talking.

As a PP asked, no it doesn't need to be white, but light/pastel coloured if not white - nothing too bold!

Could you find a local embroidery group to help you finish it?

teamclean · 29/04/2018 15:53

A shotgun wedding is a wedding that is arranged to avoid embarrassment due to premarital sex possibly leading to an unintended pregnancy, rather than out of the desire of the participants.

Not sure this is what you meant OP Grin
