to say karaoke is not a hobby for a semi-detached house

Neighbours still belting out karaoke (spotted visitors bringing in loud speakers earlier in the evening and realised the purpose about 10pm!). Earlier we just did our best to drown it out by turning up the tv (could still hear it loud and clear over the tv) but can still hear them all belting out “a ship called dignity”. I’m 5 months pregnant and suffering severe HG so usual ‘it’s a Saturday night’ tolerance is wearing thin! DH has suggested some silicone earplugs so going to give them a try.

Suggestions for 7am revenge tunes welcomed...

Fuck no! (Sorry, can't stand for anyone to have antisocial neighbours. Been there and it's horrific).

Ours used to do Adele's first album on repeat at all hours of the day and night. That's be right up there on my list of revenge tunes.

Ivorbig1 · 28/04/2018 23:43

I would say it’s the volume that’s the issue, not karaoke generally.

SimonBridges · 28/04/2018 23:46

Are you the neighbour of the poster a week or so ago who couldn’t see the problem with karaoke until 2am and said it was because she was spontaneous?

So good opera at 7am is a plan.

ScreamingValenta · 28/04/2018 23:52

Sorry if it's a silly question, but how well do you get on with your neighbours? Have you asked them if they could rein in the karaoke at night or at least set a reasonable curfew?

lynzpynz · 28/04/2018 23:57

She’ll be fully aware her and her ignorant mates are affecting us through the wall with the excessive noise.

Opera and Adele are going on the list - see how much selfish neighbour loves music tomorrow on her hangover.

@ScreamingValenta sadly previous problems we’ve had with her and her numerous visiting mates blocking our driveway have made it clear she doesn’t have much consideration for her neighbours.

Mow the lawn in the morning, and then vacuum. Pay particular attention to the skirting boards!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 29/04/2018 00:10

Do you have anything that needs drilling? Some shelves to put up?

ScreamingValenta · 29/04/2018 00:10

I thought it would probably be a futile suggestion Sad.

Revenge music - how about Timmy Mallet singing 'Itsy-bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini' or a few rounds of 'The Chicken Song' by Spitting Image Wink?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 29/04/2018 00:12

So good opera at 7am is a plan

Bad opera would be more irritating to neighbours!

lynzpynz · 29/04/2018 00:13

I’m liking these suggestions, vacuuming (sadly a mono block drive so lawn mowing is out!), and come to think of it YES we bought shelves today for the bedroom so that’s another GREAT suggestion I’d somehow not even thought of! My playlist is expanding thanks folks Grin

Love these ideas. But in all seriousness, I've been there, my old neighbours were djs. And it was a very regular thing. In the v end I reported it, there is some clause or something about using professional equipment In domestic dwellings or something..

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/04/2018 00:16

How about "its oh so quiet " by Bjork?
Followed by the 1812 overture.

Ditzyitzy · 29/04/2018 00:20

I’m also in a semi detached and My neighbours regularly do karaoke and did it until 5.30am last weekend. Music would be fine but I can’t stand drunk warbling. The next day I left Now 55 on full volume next to their bedroom wall while I went to work, luckily for them it was the only CD I had.

lynzpynz · 29/04/2018 00:20

DH has also suggested some rammstein...

Going to ram the earplugs in and try get some sleep - wish me luck! Will update tomorrow (or later if earplugs fail!).

PleaseHelpMax · 29/04/2018 00:21

Que sera sera, is the best ear worm of all time. Play it on repeat and not only will they get to enjoy their hang over, they will be singing it all day.

ScreamingValenta · 29/04/2018 00:23

Good luck OP! Don't forget to set your alarm for 6am (blasting out Rammstein)!

DairyisClosed · 29/04/2018 00:32

I suggest you book yourself into a nice hotel and put the same song on repeat against the wall at top volume for 24 hrs.

lynzpynz · 29/04/2018 01:27

Well earplugs didn’t work sadly but OH finally snapped, got dressed and went over and told them to wrap it! Its all gone quiet soon after just gentle chatter now. So proud of him, he’d usually never do anything like that but said I’m pregnant and need my sleep and no stress Smile hoping that’s done the trick!

It's so petty to retaliate and do something back. It just becomes a hair pulling match where you do something to them and they do it back. Just go over and say something.
