AIBU to swap my puppy for a fish?

At 1am I was awoken to the sounds of puking. The dog had vomited on the bedroom carpet after eating too much pre-bed grass. I told him that would happen. Then I tried to clean it up quietly. Cue jumping barking dog spreading all over the place. Then the kid woke up and came into our room and the manky dog jumped all over her making her cry. Then hubby woke up and switched the light on and swore at the dog. The dog is woofing, the kid is howling and I am galloping around with soapy water and a cloth cleaning up dog vomit.

We finally got sorted and got the kid settled in our bed, the dog settled in his bed and turned the light out. Everyone else got back to sleep (cue snoring dog) and I lay there all night wide awake.

Is the grounds for asking if the RSPCA would swap my dog for a fish??

In case it isn't obvious I am not really going to re-home my dog for waking me up. I might divorce the husband for switching the big light on though!

I want to swap my aging dog for a new cushion.
And yy to the grass eating and then throwing up aaallll over the bloody carpet.
Mine has taken to raking the carpet in the middle of the night instead of barking outside dd's door (on top floor above me). Every night I have to get up, hiss's loudly to make the noise stop.
Anyone want an aging pita hound? Grin

My dog was sick all over the hall floor the night I went into labour, I would have swapped her for a tea towel at that moment!

Claire90ftm · 27/04/2018 16:25

Could you make him sleep in the kitchen so he doesn't have access to a carpeted area at night?

sonjadog · 27/04/2018 16:28

This is why puppies are so cute. It is so they get to survive all the things they do.

mishfish · 27/04/2018 16:29

Do you know how much hard work fish are? I want to swap mine for a puppy Wink

BiteyShark · 27/04/2018 16:33

Fish don't curl up on you and give you a hug when you are feeling sad so yes yabu to want to swop him for a fish Grin

However, thinking about it, if I got a fish tank maybe that would amuse BiteyDog for hours watching them and give me some peace Hmm

A few weeks ago I'd have swapped mine for a new carpet at 4 am. Instead i bought a vax shampooer and harmony has returned.... Smile

Domino20 · 27/04/2018 18:48

Noooo. Fish are hard work pain in the ass. Don't do it 😁

EverythingsDozy · 27/04/2018 18:52

Fish are so much harder than puppies!!! I would never get more fish but I'd have another dog tomorrow! 🐶

Fish are easy pets. Daily turn lights on and off and drop food in the tank. Weekly or less often if you are having a lazy time, clean the tank - takes say 45 mins.
That's it.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 27/04/2018 18:57

Please don't take your new fish for a walk....

agedknees · 27/04/2018 18:58

Picture of puppy or it didn’t happen!!

mishfish · 28/04/2018 09:16

@user have you ever had an ammonia spike? Pain in the area 😭😂

userofthiswebsite · 28/04/2018 23:41

mishfish

I think I've made 2 mistakes with my tank...

  1. Trying to put too many larger size fish in the tank that were too 'heavy' for it.
  2. Not figuring out the whole squeeze out your sponges in the tank water thing.

I have the large Fluval Edge and very happy with it, 5 years now.

Would love a discus tank but I think that's just a dream.

mishfish · 29/04/2018 11:54

@user I’ve made probably about every mistake under the sun with mine. I think half the fishnet boards are posts by me Sad

I would swap my dog for a mouldy crumb of toast! He is a rescue and I got him when he was 10. He is now 13 and generally terrible. He barks all day and night, he tries to eat my children, he pukes regularly and rarely does normal dog plop. I got shouted at by a lady in a car because doggo had done a watery poo and I could not pick it up (literally brown water) so I was covering it with dirt. He tries to savage other dogs and is generally just a BAD DOG.

If it wasn't for the fact he is my number one fan and stops me from crying when I'm sad by incessantly licking my face and trying to sit on me, and the fact I love him more than my DH, I would swap him for a mouldy crumb.

mustbemad17 · 29/04/2018 12:01

At least it's not a regular thing 🙈 before ddog had to be pts she would pee at least twice a night, once in the same place - awesome, puppy pads in place - but then the other would be in some random hidey spot. It became almost a game in a morning to see who could avoid the wet patch 🙈 luckily we adored her & understood it wasn't her fault...but ever so often i would roll my eyes at her & tell her i was taking her to be made into dog food 😆

Puppies are such bastards sometimes.

Some of these posts remind me of the dog Marley in Marley and Me.

chubbymummy · 29/04/2018 14:42

I'd like to swap my dog for a new sofa (he ate the last one!)

mustbemad17 · 29/04/2018 17:30

Chubbymummy one of my fosters chewed the arm of my sofa to the frame...when he ended up coming back 6 months after his new home bounced, the first thing he did was chew the other arm. It was very symmetrical & would have been funny had it not looked so bloody awful 😂
