......we now wouldn't be looking at all out peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Very well done, Mr Trump, very well done indeed.

OP posts:

@A4710Rider

I don’t necessarily disagree with your OP but your sneery and aggressive subsequent attacking replies doesn’t help get your point across.

SunwheretheFareyou · 27/04/2018 14:12

Look, you're obviously a front row student at the Guardian School of Political Awareness but you must be able to understand the impact of Trump declaring, outright, that he wanted to meet Kim and all the international validation it would have given the latter? That's just one very small example

Grin couldnt help but laugh at this Grin

By the way I think the @ function is only to be used occasionally not all the time other wise people dont want endless emails ec

MissionItsPossible · 27/04/2018 14:15

Well then they need to turn their notifications off if they don’t like it because it’s a useful feature. Though when people @ me and don’t include the full name I.e @mission I do feel sorry for those users that are getting notifications on threads that are nothing to do with them.

StealthPolarBear · 27/04/2018 14:23

I've been in my current job all of the time this has been going on, can I take credit?
Op you have utterly avoided the questions about what he actually did. Well done.

derxa · 27/04/2018 14:23

.

MrsDilber · 27/04/2018 16:37

Means Obama has been bought up, he achieved nothing in his time. Yeah he was cool, for sure, I'll give him that, he could mic drop really well 👏🏻

Whilst I find Trump repugnant, I honestly believe he would follow through with his threats and so does North Korea. Definitely a terrifying state of play, but without Trump, we would never have witnessed what we just have.

Next up, Trump meeting the Kim.

Oh yeah, and lots of people with too much time me on their hands, protesting when he comes to London.

ArcheryAnnie · 27/04/2018 16:58

Whilst I find Trump repugnant, I honestly believe he would follow through with his threats and so does North Korea.

This is not a plus. I am baffled that anyone would think this is a plus.

Itinerary · 27/04/2018 21:22

This is not a plus. I am baffled that anyone would think this is a plus.

It is a plus because nuclear deterrents don't work unless someone is prepared to press the button, in very extreme circumstances only of course.

The Corbyn approach of sitting down in a circle, virtue signalling, holding hands and playing 70s hippy songs, is a cop-out which is definitely not going to cut it with an aggressive dictator.

ragged · 27/04/2018 21:38

Trump is the King of Empty Threats and emptier promises. Threatens to fire folk, sue them, build this, stop that, Lock her UP... Rare anything happens. Promised an infrastructure bill have you seen an infrastructure bill? Promised a million things on "Day 1" did those happen? Promised to rescind Iran deal - Guess what we still got? Promised to put Cuba back in the cold -- are they? Promises to pay his lawyers... now he struggles to find an attorney (harhar). Etc.

The SKoreans have put on a charm offensive & KJU enjoys the praised place in public spotlight. For now. Nothing has been achieved, yet, and quite possibly won't be.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 27/04/2018 21:52

I agree with pretty much all annies post

Where did the OP go?

I still dont know if it was just the threat of a meeting that did it

SilverySurfer · 27/04/2018 21:53

The world would be in even bigger shit than it is now.

ragged · 27/04/2018 22:01

I like HRC but listening to the ongoing conspiracy theory attacks on her would have done my head in. Ironically, I have learnt so much about the American constitution that I never would have absorbed under an HRC presidency. I am absorbed in the Trump scandals but I would have tuned out of American politics completely for an HRC presidency, the ridiculous constant personal attacks were too much to stomach under Obama, but at least he could fend many off with great charm.

The scary thing about Pence is he would put quietly competent people in post to do a lot of bad things. Trumps choices for senior civil service are so incompetent that DJT is not doing half the harm he could have achieved. Although the VA is a total & utter mess. Well, it all is. Pruitt is a corrupt greedy buffoon, Zinke is a stupid greedy guy, Mnuchen is a corrupt greedy buffoon, Carson is a corrupt stupid greedy buffoon... I suppose Pompeo & Bolton are none of previous - not proven so, anyway (yet). Pompeo is a top brown-nose... and even SH-Sanders is looking very drained by the whole Circus. KAC has actually gained weight and is looking much healthier than she used to. I don't think Dennis Quaid can play KAC on SNL after all.

& Avanatti is HOT. omg, never thought a bald guy could be fanciable. But there you have it. Looks and Brains.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 27/04/2018 22:08

Uh oh

There are two annies

IMBU · 27/04/2018 22:24

YANBU. Trump is a narcissistic mysoginist but credit where credit is due he's come up trumps on this one.

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 27/04/2018 22:26

But what did he actually doooooo!!!!

Only thing people have said is that he tweeted something along the lines of ' would be jolly good to have a meeting with that kim chap'

(I may be paraphrasing)

Was that it..i just feel that the situation was a bit more complicated than that

ToPlanZ · 27/04/2018 22:46

A huge part of the shift is NKs announcement that they will cease nuclear testing. They announced this not due to a sudden inclination towards peace but because as they themselves said they have successfully completed the program. They closed down one testing site, one of three. The site they shut down is under a mountain had already been used for 6 tests and is so totally shagged that a tunnel collapse killed 200 workers in the last few months. Other leaders now have to take them seriously as they did when Pakistan became a nuclear power. Hence the shifting sands, NK will now be negotiating like mad for sanctions to be lifted, they may want other countries to allow weapons inspectors in and pay to do so etc. They're making the most of the extra ace in their hand. I'm no guardianista, and no Trump fan either. I would give him credit but I think on this occasion it goes to the even more unpalatable NK leader. As for HC, who know how it would have panned out. As we know what potential leaders signal and what they actually carry out can be poles apart. Mexican funded wall anyone.....

TooMuchGreys · 27/04/2018 23:26

Trump didnt do anything. NK is in self preservation mode. Kim has ended up destroying his nuclear testing site, ruining his position as a nuclear power and the people of NK are starving. So he’s behaving himself so that he is allowed to trade and stop his people revolting!

ragged · 28/04/2018 04:56

Nicolle Wallace on Trump inevitably sabotaging his own moment of victory (NK progress). Can't make it up. twitter.com/twitter/statuses/989962072489431043

Anniegetyourgun · 28/04/2018 08:09

So which one of us did you agree with, Rufus? Hopefully both Wink

Iirc, it went something like Moon having a chat with Kim's representative at the Olympics, meeting Kim himself soon after, then letting it be known that Kim was up for a chat with the US Pres. US Pres then says (against advice) yeah, I can do that. Now the latter is being hailed as the broker for peace. OK then. As long as ^somebody* does the job...

Unfortunately I think ragged is right that, although this is a hopeful beginning, that's all it is and there's no guarantee it will go anywhere. If progress depends on the terminally undiplomatic Trump then it could either stall or go the other way fast. For the record, I'm reasonably hopeful that no nuclear weapons are likely to be exchanged any time soon - probably.

Lethaldrizzle · 28/04/2018 08:29

As a pp pointed out, ops replies are 'aggressive and sneery', suspiciously trump like Hmm

Rufustheconstantreindeer · 28/04/2018 09:29
