Annoying things other posters do

Just wondering what things other posters do that really annoy you?

For me it's the deliberate misconstruing of an opening post and then flaming the OP for something they never actually said or implied.

Also the posters who conjure up wild scenarios to try and prove the OP is BU - "How do you know the woman who pushed you out of the way at the bus stop wasn't rushing home to her seriously ill child and has only 2p in her purse so couldn't afford a taxi. Try to be kinder and less self absorbed in future".

OP posts:
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/04/2018 11:15

I hate the Biscuit. It's extremely rude and exclusive.

Lizzie48 · 28/04/2018 11:18

Tbf, you get these long OPs, because there are always so many complaints about 'drip feeding'. The OPs can't win sometimes. Although I don't like the long OPs myself.

RoseWhiteTips · 28/04/2018 11:18

Yes, agreed. Hate those who use the drip feed accusation. It is so unoriginal and lazy.

WilyMinx · 28/04/2018 11:25

I find "just that really" and "naice" very irritating but I'm fairly new here so am trying to get used to them.

POPholditdown · 28/04/2018 11:35

‘Going against the grain’ really irritates me but I have no idea why.

I think posters complain of drip feeding because they're annoyed that the OP turns out not to be unreasonable at all and they had been enjoying hurling insults at the OP.

isthismummy · 28/04/2018 11:39

When an op says they are looking for a new dog, but don't like Staffies or greyhounds.

Everyone on the doghouse: "What about a staffie or rescue greyhound"

Then op is ripped to pieces when they again say they don't want either breed.

Also the assumption that you're a dreadful wannabe dog owner if you're not down on a breeders list for a puppy for at least a century before getting one. I used to show/breed dogs. Good reputable breeders DO quite often have puppies available at short notice due to time wasters etc. It doesn't mean the puppy came from Latvia in the back of a rusty pick up.

Also threads where the stay at home or single mother is posting about financial abuse/having no money. Then people jump on to helpfully suggest op retrain to improve their job prospects. Because retraining and gaining new qualifications is always free in this country and definitely doesn't require money!

MorrisZapp · 28/04/2018 11:40

People who think that not liking X Factor or the expression 'hollibobs' constitute unpopular views.

SayNoToCarrots · 28/04/2018 11:54

People who say "only on mumsnet" or "no one I know in RL does this" usually in response to women keeping their own names. Mumsnet people are RL people too . . .

YoucancallmeVal · 28/04/2018 11:56

So, so many misdemeanours...
" I fed my child weetabix for breakfast, sandwich for lunch and pasta for tea."
Poster - I'd swap the weetabix for kale, sandwich for vegetable soup and pasta for a salad.

Op - my dh has hit me/left me/gambled all our money
100 posts of " well my dh would never do this"
Yes, when choosing husbands, some women choose the defective type on purpose.

And a personal one that fucked me right off:
Me - in my role I have to (insert very niche thing)
Poster: fuck off you do not, that doesn't exist. Where are you then, where do you work?
It does exist, it's my job. She was vile!!

frasier · 28/04/2018 11:56

What is “hollibibs”?

ScreamingValenta · 28/04/2018 11:58

'hollibobs' is a twee word for 'holidays'.

frasier · 28/04/2018 11:58

Oh bobs not bibs! Thank you. Couldn’t find it when I googled bibs lol!

JuanPotatoTwo · 28/04/2018 12:00

I’ve rtft (but forgotten most of it).

I get mildly irritated by replies that say “you’ve had some good advice here op”. Makes me think op is meant to come over ridiculously grateful.

faithinthesound · 28/04/2018 12:50

I get annoyed with this:

OP: (has a bit of a lighthearted rant/vent about something which isn't earth shattering but which has clearly vexed them a bit)

Poster 1: you know, it could be worse. People in Syria are dying.
Poster 2: I've sixteen children, all with varying special needs, and I've to deal with them all by myself. I'd never fret about (issue), as I haven't the time!
Poster 3: (something twee and sickening about counting blessings)

FFS OP isn't advocating ending it all or going on a spree, they're letting off a bit of steam! This has actually happened to me lol.

MrsFezziwig · 28/04/2018 12:51

The expression “bore off”.

As a counterbalance to the patronising “you sound very young”, any OP that involves “an elderly woman/man”, because you can be assured the term is going to be used as an insult. Don’t think I have ever read a thread where the elderly person turns out to be the most delightful person the OP has ever met.

rabbitsitter · 28/04/2018 12:51

TammyWhyNot yes I know, its not the name-changing thats annoying its the fact that you name change to be anonymous and then you tell everyone that you name changed straight away. Why tell everyone if you're trying to be anonymous?

rabbitsitter · 28/04/2018 12:55

Op - my dh has hit me/left me/gambled all our money

Yes, when choosing husbands, some women choose the defective type on purpose.

"Defective type" excellent description! Grin

isthismummy · 28/04/2018 13:00

God yes @rabbitsitter!

Or the posts where op is complaining about their partners bad attitude to a new baby, and gets replies asking why she had a baby with him. So helpful.

flubdub · 28/04/2018 13:34

OP - "AIBU?"

Everybody else - "Yes"

OP - "No I'm not."

pigsDOfly · 28/04/2018 13:35

The ageism on here. The assumption that anyone over a certain age is racist, sexist and any other 'ist' you can think of and of course generally narrow minded. Oh and that they voted for brexit.

And the assumption that anyone who gave birth to the current generation of adults smoked and drank throughout their pregnancies, never breastfed, left their babies to cry, left their babies with underage babysitters etc. etc. and generally just got it all completely wrong.

DoJo · 28/04/2018 13:38

I think that was when I was being told binary HAD to have 16 digits. If you are programming a computer yes it does, but just doing sums no it doesn't.

Is anyone going to log it with 101?

Probably not because, you're thirteen 0s and 1s short...

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 28/04/2018 13:38

Looking through s&b I just remembered another one - people who post links where a picture would be more helpful and quicker for everyone else. They usually don't shorten the link either so it looks messy. Yes I appreciate this is trivial.

RedSkyAtNight · 28/04/2018 14:25

Threads with a very general title such as "Tennis" and when you open them you find the OP wants to know something very specific like recommendations for a tennis club near Watford. Why not put it in the title????

Use of "could of", "should of", "would of". This is not a typo and it's not bad grammar, it plain doesn't make sense.
