To be cross at DD’s nursery for covering her dress in paint that has stained?

My DD is 2 and obvs has had a great time painting something bright red as part of a guided activity- now her dress is completely wrecked, it’s covered in red paint and it looks awful! It’s not an especially special dress and I do want her to muck in and have fun, getting dirty if needs be. However, AIBU to expect that if staff anticipate that their activity involves lots of staining paint, to have put a pinny on her first?

Such a first world problem, I know. It’s just hard to not feel cross when I fork out 60 quid a day and now have to forfeit her clothing too, grr.

They should have put an apron on her - but you should not put her in any clothes for nursery that you care get ruined. Even with an apron she could cover other parts of her outfit with paint.

I work in Nursery and red and blue paint never seems to come out of my clothes when I end up with paint on me.

I always ensure they wear a painting pinny but children will smear their wet washed hands on their clothes instead of drying them.

I'm currently doing some one to one hours and the wee one gets paint everywhere. I do everything I can but those wee hands are faster than lightening and the paint in the hair at 8.38am now has me going "uhoh" instead of stressing. I ended up with red paint down me one day and my Dd got a shock when I took my coat off as it looked like I had been pouring with blood! She thought I had really hurt myself.

I used to feel like you when ds started nursery. He would come home daily caked in paint, flour, mud, food etc.. now those ruined clothes are his 'nursery clothes and I send him in looking like a character out of Oliver twist. But I don't care anymore as long as he's having fun. He gets through at least 2 outfits a day when there and they don't even attempt to keep him clean so I've given up caring.

Yeah...yabu.

I worked in a nursery before having children and even with a pinny the children would still end up covered...one child even managed to dye his white blonde hair purple in one sweep of his hands through his hair...in future expect the clothes will get messy and send in clothes you don't mind getting ruined.
