For being bitterly disappointed at the language and attitudes of people on MN lately?

I started using MN for support when I was going through hard times, hopefully supporting people when they were going through their hard times, learn new things, catch up with news etc. Lately however every thread I go on seems to be one big fight session. People are either being purposefully nasty or having a go at anyone who disagrees with their opinion - foul language included in the bundle. Is this really what this site is turning in to? Surely everyone is entitled to an opinion and surely if you don't agree and can't be mature about you should follow my mother's advice 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all'.

I do wish people would read posts in their entirety instead of just the odd word.

Rhubarb · 14/05/2007 18:54

Hope your dd is ok WB.

rhuby, it's aitchtwooh, i just wanted to take issue with this idea that a group of posters change their names and post as cod. i'm a persistent namechanger, because it's fun, and i always say it's me after a short interval. (my current name change is a conflation of franny and cod's names and is relevant to a thread huwedwards started. when i posted, i mimicked both their posting styles.)
i know of a few others who like to change their names as well. what i'm not aware of is anyone 'copying' cod's typing style to leave nasty or even obtuse messages. are you sure that's really happening? i don't think so, personally.

Rhubarb · 14/05/2007 19:09

I'm presuming they copy her style because they are short one liners with no grammar that usually say "fark orf" or "oh ffs grow up" or something along those lines. So when I say copying cod I mean that they are short sentences with no grammar and misspellings.

I do agree that it might not be a deliberate copy.

I've noticed it on a few threads, shall I try to find some? But then I shall be accused of all sorts. I guess by being general you rather hope that the culprits read this and realise that their "witty" retorts are actually offensive and uninteresting and they may back off? Or perhaps I am just putting a target sign on my back?

Frod · 14/05/2007 19:10

i think they might all be cod, rhubes...

Rhubarb · 14/05/2007 19:11

This thread title is crap though isn't it?

Why did the OP name change I wonder? Perhaps they are scared of being referred to as "one of those whingers" I notice that is now rather amusingly coming up on other threads.

Rhubarb · 14/05/2007 19:12

Frod, if you suggest that then prepare to be leapt upon!

Frod · 14/05/2007 19:13

it is a bit headmistress-y, i think. bitterly disappointed, really? a wee bit of perspective wouldn't go amiss... it's only a website.

Rhubarb · 14/05/2007 19:13

I notice that you failed to grammaticise that sentence properly Frod, I am bitterly disappointed in you.
