Davina making omelettes on Lorraine...really??!!

Just seen Davina demonstrating how to make 2 omelettes on Lorraine...she pointed out prior to this to the viewer that she is 'half french', AIBU thinking that this doesn't mean that she is a chef, and can't believe that she is paid on national telly to crack 3 eggs, mix them with herbs in a pan and pontificate how healthy the meal is and her kids love it??
In the next section she will no doubt show us how to make a cup of tea, FFS!

I can't make omelettes they always end up like scrambled eggs how do you fold them so the cheese and ham (or whatever )is in the middle

montenotte · 25/04/2018 12:20

you may laugh but i know plenty of 20 somethings who can't make an omelette, wouldn't know where to start.

Delia Smith taught me everything with her "how to cook" books & tv series. bring back Delia.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/04/2018 12:22

More useful than a feature on how to have a beach ready body or how to put an outfit together with a budget bigger than the average weekly income.

montenotte · 25/04/2018 12:23

Making an omelette would be an extremely basic, first lesson of secondary school home economics level task.

many schools don't have HE lessons.

i had HE lessons for 3 years. we never made anything useful like an omelette. home made puff pastry, roux sauce, apple crumble, chelsea buns - yes
omelette or quick healthy easy to prepare meals - no!

Loonoon one of the girls I shared a room with studied at the RCM. She ate a Fray Bentos meat pie and cabbage every evening for her dinner, and spent so little money from her grant that she save enough for a deposit on a flat. This was in 80's though, so prices not so high then.

SluttyButty · 25/04/2018 12:24

I was actually the worst omelette maker on the planet until my dh taught me how to cook them properly in my 40's. I imagine there are thousands of people out there just like me who make them and they're like rubber frisbees. Not everyone learns that skill whilst young.

I'm now a competent omelette maker AND I add the cheese, onions etc in the egg mix and chuck the whole lot in the pain, let it set a little and then draw it in. I don't add the cheese after as suggested by another poster.

Who's for an omelette now? Grin

UrsulaPandress · 25/04/2018 12:24

I remember being given short shrift by a relative for mocking Delia's first How to Cook book as it included a whole chapter on eggs.

And I speak as someone who has just managed to spoil a huge bowl of melted chocolate.

@ShowerGel9 - hilarious 😂😂😂. How do you survive??!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/04/2018 12:25

I know how to make a French omelette and other people have eaten my omelettes and enjoyed them, but it's just about the only form of egg cooking I don't really like. I prefer a Spanish tortilla or very soft scrambled eggs.

halfwitpicker · 25/04/2018 12:26

What's an omelette maker?

SnookieSnooks · 25/04/2018 12:26

YABU. Most people don’t know how to make an omelette properly.

Omelettes, crêpes, they're all the same. Bang in the pan, cook gently to set, fold over.

N'est pas?

SluttyButty · 25/04/2018 12:28

Er no Smeaton my frittatas are cooked differently to my omelettes 😂

x2boys · 25/04/2018 12:29

Thankyou@SmeatonSmile I can actually cook just not omelettes ill try your method .

InfiniteSheldon · 25/04/2018 12:29

Another one here who had to taught to make omelettes by DH in her forties. I'm a great cook just never mastered so never ate omelettes at home.

SpectacularAardvark · 25/04/2018 12:34

I'm normally fine at omelettes but I tried to make one for DS last week and my brain went on strike, for some reason I cracked the egg straight into the pan and watched in fascinated horror as I accidentally made a fried egg.
I had to give myself a shake, quickly eat the evidence and make an omelette before anyone noticed. Blush

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/04/2018 12:36

Omlettes and crepes are completely different!

4GreenApples · 25/04/2018 12:37

I’ve been an adult for years, and I only learnt how to cook omelettes earlier this year.

It may seem simple to someone who’s a practiced omelette maker, but it didn’t feel simple the first few times I tried it.

No classes on omelette cooking - or any sort of egg cooking - in HE at my secondary school either.

Tinkobell · 25/04/2018 12:37

Just googled "how to make shit food look fancy" - fantastic. Once chucked two pots of leftovers on a plate with a biscuit on the side - voila "trio de desserts".....I'm not even half french!!

Davina making omelettes on Lorraine...really??!!

YANBU to be watching such a pile of appalling drivel as the LORRAINE show, with the sickly sweet, sycophantic, irritating, talentless Lorraine Kelly. The show is a pile of pointless trash, and This Morning with Holly Gigglyby and Phil 'overrated' Schofield, is going the same way.

Both shows are like TV versions of take a break magazine, and adding the vile and putrid Jeremy Kyle into the mix, and the Godawful shower of shit that he puts out between 9.25am and 10.30am every weekday, the whole morning on tv, every weekday, is fucking wank.

Thank GOD for Netflix.

As for Davina, she is OK, but I don't like her as much as I used to. Frankly, I am bored with her banging on about her fitness and health and dieting. Give it a rest already! Hmm

And like a number of other people have said on here, I can't believe there is a person alive who can't make a bleedin' OMELETTE! Come ON!!!!! My kids could do that at 8-9 years old FGS. Hmm

The people saying 'I can cook really well, but have never made an omelette, and don't know how!' Give over! 🙄
