Now first of all I accept the fact there is a small fraction of the population with sensory issues due to autism etc for whom headphones are not suitable.

However the amount if children I see listening to music playing games watching videos etc with no headphones on trains and buses. I just think its rude to everyone around you. And also teaching children that consideration for others doesn't matter as long as your happy?

YANBU my 5 year old doesn’t like headphones so he’s allowed a device with the sound off. Grin he doesn’t mind that when he’s playing games.

KellyBailey · 24/04/2018 22:47

YANBU. The worst example of this I saw was a mother put an episode of peppa pig on her phone for a fidgety toddler during a wedding ceremony with the sound on. My face was like this Shock.

Tmtiger · 24/04/2018 22:57

Exactly I accept some might not like head phones so as a compromise they watch it with sound down as a consideration for other people!

Peppa pig during a wedding Shock Shock Shock
I even do this face Hmm when it is blasting out a coffee shop. Always seems to be Peppa pig for some reason Grin
YANBU OP. Why don't people stop being so bleedin inconsiderate

Notcontent · 24/04/2018 23:02

Oh, I absolutely hate this and have no idea why people think this is ok!! We seem to live in a society where it has become acceptable for people to impose noise on others and there is no way to avoid it except to go and live on a deserted island...

moontree · 24/04/2018 23:05

YANBU I am sound sensitive and have other issues and wish people who HAVE to play thei rmusic on their devices could be considerate enough to wear headphones or keep sound off until they in an appropritae place.

I see small children all the tiem on public transport using tablets with the sound ON and wonder why their parents do not just give them headphones.

Glumglowworm · 24/04/2018 23:06

YANBU

If you/your child doesn’t like headphones then they need to put up with it on mute, or if appropriate (not at a wedding!) at a very low volume that won’t disturb others

Adults playing games with the sound on really grates on me. I once spent a train journey mildly irritated with a family as I thought the repetitive electronic noise was from them. Then I realised it was actually the solo travelling adult sat behind the (impeccably behaved) family. Mildly irritating when I thought it was young children became very irritating when I realised it was an adult! Adults should have more consideration for those around them and less need for constant stimulation! I don’t care if you play games on your phone, I play games on my phone too, but either turn the sound off or wear headphones ffs!

AppleKatie · 24/04/2018 23:06

Yanbu but it’s also true that headphones are not always much better. Bloody tinny annoying noise emitted from them too.

moontree · 24/04/2018 23:07

soggydigestive I have said it before and I will say it again- Peppa Pig needs to be spitroasted and her "silly fat dadddy" made into crackling.
Wink

I agree. On occasion though I've seen friends allow their dc to do it in public. Not close enough friends for me to say 'wise up, that's so rude' though, so I just have to sit there cringing & finish my cuppa asap!
