What would you honestly think of this 'party bag'?

Not a actual bag, but a plastic plant pot with a bag of soil and flower seeds inside together with sweets and cake, and a balloon tied to it with ribbon?

DC 7.

I was sick of bags full of tat so thought I'd try something different and constructive.

Thinking I might come across as a pretentious twat nowBlush.

Balloons are horrible for the environment.

I'd really like this.

Charlie97 · 24/04/2018 20:56

Fantastic, but I would love it to be sunflower seeds!

Go for it!

birdsdestiny · 24/04/2018 20:57

Over the years we have had tons of party bags, I remember none of them except the one that contained the ingredients for homemade cookies with a handwritten recipe, in a lovely box tied with a ribbon. I still remember that 10 years later. Yours sound a similar thoughtful idea.

DaffodilsAreMyFav · 24/04/2018 21:00

My 9 year old would love this - has been v excited about growing things in the past - sunflower - had a go at a pumpkin once.

BrightOranges · 24/04/2018 21:00

Not the balloon!

Trashy, bad for the environment and deadly to those allergic to latex.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 24/04/2018 21:02

I wouldn't mind, but DS would be gutted - he loves party tat.

Just make sure the seeds are ones which can be planted straight into that soil in that pot. Not like those kits where you basically need a greenhouse to grow the item.

flamingofridays · 24/04/2018 21:03

So sweet. My ds (2) would love it!

hdh747 · 24/04/2018 21:11

Can I come to your party please? Star

higherupper · 24/04/2018 21:15

I like the idea. So would my dd who's 6.

Bumble1830 · 24/04/2018 21:18

I think this is a great idea. Whenever my DS goes to a party, the sweets from the bag are usually eaten before we get home and everything else gets left in the back of the car, then I end up scraping cake of the back seat about 3 months later (dont judge me Grin )

StellaWouldYouTakeMeHome · 24/04/2018 21:19

My daughter would love that but she’s a keen gardener so it depends really

BeyondThePage · 24/04/2018 21:23

Courgette seeds are fun - you could feed a family for months of one or 2 plants!

BeyondThePage · 24/04/2018 21:23

of !?!? = from

smithsinarazz · 24/04/2018 21:24

Lovely idea! I like the idea of getting kids interested in growing things.

FizzyWizzyFlash · 24/04/2018 21:24

I would love it and actually be grateful.

DD always wants to grow something during this time of year and I can never bring myself to buy a massive bag of soil for a small plant pot that I know she won't look after.

It's a great idea!

littlemisscomper · 24/04/2018 21:26

That sounds really nice. How about as part of the party they each decorate their own pot? I had a craft party for my 6th birthday and it was a huge success.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 24/04/2018 21:27

I'd be delighted - sounds like a lovely idea

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2018 21:31

I think it sounds lovely but my two DSs at 7 wouldn't have been in the least bit interested and I would have ended up doing the planting. If it got done at all.

MumW · 24/04/2018 21:32

I did this 15 or so years ago. They were sunflower seeds and I regreted not making it a growing competition - it didn't occur to me until a lot later.

SkippedReception · 24/04/2018 21:37

Think it sounds lovely!

MissClareRemembers · 24/04/2018 21:44

What a lovely idea!

I bought a load of vintage superhero comics once and put those in party bags. The parents loved them but the kids were a bit flummoxed!

pilates · 24/04/2018 21:57

Lovely 🙂

Blatherskite · 25/04/2018 12:38

I've never done plastic tat as I can't bear the thought of spending all that money on junk that's going to break in 5 minutes, annoy parents and end up in the bin within days and then landfill forever. Things that have gone down well are personalised aprons for a pottery painting party (cheap aprons from Baker Ross and some iron transfer paper) and some Mario style caps which I made for a karting party (cheap red caps and some white felt and fabric glue. Mario Font downloaded and printed) which I saw one invitee wearing at school just last week when it was hot. The party was 2 years ago!

We'd love the little plant pot.

The last things most kids need after a party is more sweets!

KC225 · 25/04/2018 12:46

If I am honest I would think its a little 'worthy' and pretentious. Party bags are what the kids enjoy - not you.

My friends twins were given some seeds to plant, cress I think, something quick growing. Older brother got them to spell out BUM and they got to see it all its green glory. Not sure that was the point.

rogueantimatter · 25/04/2018 12:53

Great idea.

I used to do a party game where the children threw sweeties from behind a line into a big tub. The ones that made it into the tub went into their party bag. They wrote their name on a label and stuck it on a bag on arrival. Sweeties in the layers of pass the parcel topped it up. And cake of course.
