To give my child my phone whilst I shop?

I have three DCs but 2 at home in the day with me, ages 3 and 2. Every week I go to Morrisons for a big shop.

I never give my children tech when we go out but today I just wanted a bit of peace whilst walking around and let the 2yo hold my phone and watch Youtube on the free wifi. The 3yo who is much better behaved and sat in the trolley then also walked around with me helping.

I felt a bit embarrassed the whole time I walked around if I'm honest, like people would be judging me for not being able to let my child go around in the trolley without a distraction. Is this shitty parenting?

Pretty shitty if the sound was on. Less so if it was on mute.

It was on low, but in a huge supermarket so you could only hear it if you were pushing the trolley (when I walked to get something in the aisle I couldn't hear it).

I wouldn't care what people think, if it keeps your lo happy then it doesn't matter for a short while

I worry more about the phone being dropped than a snap shot of a child watching something on a device.

If only you could hear it, then you have no need to worry about your parenting.

I would probably think "I hope they don't drop it... " but I frequently see kids in their buggies with an iPhone. I don't think I would register it to be honest.

It's the supermarket. Nobody is going there to absorb the serenity. Let them go on the tablet with the noise on full blast if it makes your life easier.

Why don't you get your shopping delivered, much easier.

You’d be judged if they were too noisy, you would be judged if you talk to them too much....do whatever you need to do and ignore all the eyes around you who judge whatever

I think you really have to give up worrying what people think and do whats best for you and your family.

If it means you get the shopping done and you are calmer because of it then thats a positive. People will judge whatever you do.

We do it every week. My biggest concern is not what people think but her dropping it.

God I remember the shop Before devices with a toddler it was an utter nightmare back then we flung grapes at them andhalf way round she would shout I NEEDAPOOOOMUMMY.... you modern mothers have no idea the horror ofthe big shop

I wouldn't judge at all - but I only do top-up shops with my toddler. The idea of doing a big shop with 2 young children is quite brave!

My weekly treat used to be a walk down to the local charity shop when ds1 was pushchair age. I bought him crisps from the shop next door which kept him quiet for half an hour while I had a browse. I must have looked like a rubbish mum but it was the only bag of crisps he ever had and it saved my sanity!

YANBU most sensible people would rather see a toddler on a phone than screaming the place down.

Last week when I did it they both were screaming (in a playful way) winding each other up and my 2yo kept running off down the aisles and so the 3yo would follow him. In the end I had to give him a brioche roll that I hadn't yet bought to get him to sit in the trolley and be quiet but by that point the 3yo was off it with excitement!

I'm not used to this because I only recently got a car, so I used to have my shop delivered every week. Maybe I'll go back to it for an easier life I was worried about my phone being dropped too!!
