Posting here for traffic.

I want to start swimming but I only have this one piece but I don't know if it's appropriate for the local swimming pool. The cut outs don't show anything but the front one is down to my belly button. I only usually swim holiday so my other option is a swim dress.

Adding the picture from the website. I am going to invest in a sports one as I love swimming and I need to work on a shoulder injury and swimming was advised by my doctor.

OP I actually think that one is totally fine - but then again I was going to buy myself a maternity bikini for swimming and my mother made me feel like that was totally inappropriate and no one wanted to see my bump, so I ended up going for something that covered everything. Point being, people can be weird and might stare or make comments. They wouldn't be in the right, but it might upset you.

Raven I think that's fine. After the obscene turn this thread took, your swimming costume looks very modest indeed. If it holds you all in and stays put, wear it. Smile

I think it is fine (as in I don't think it is too revealing - but I go swimming a lot and have seen some absolute horrors - usually worn by midle aged perma tanned men).

I'm not sure I would find it comfortable to swim lengths in, but if you do then go for it (although as a previous poster says - if it is your favourite it will get wrecked by the pool water)

I swim regularly in a public pool and I can’t see anyone being offended or surprised at your current costume. As you are fond of it, however, I wouldn’t subject it to the chemicals that they will have - takes the colour out after a while and attack some the fabric. . I buy Sainsbury’s standard black with cups - bit more support for if you are swimming more vigorously and cheap, enough not to care when the chemicals take their toll. Also, though you may wince at first at the thought of swim caps, do wear one - my hairdresser told me to wet my hair with tap water or bottled if you are feeling extravagant around the edges, under your cap as it stops the harsher water being absorbed and thereby protects your hair. Always rinse the costume really well after .
