TO buy a house and start a new job at the same time

... bad idea?

Context - we have been looking to buy a house for about six months now. Made an offer on a house in January but pulled out after problems with neighbours. I have recently been made redundant :( but starting a new job at the end of the month that pays more money.

DP earns a decent wage, about double mine, but We obviously want a joint mortgage. We have £100k deposit.

We found a house we both love and is so much better than others we have seen. We want to put an offer on it but worried as I haven’t started my new job yet.

Is it worth doing, or would you wait until being in a job a while before buying a house? DP has very stable job and could cover things on his own at a stretch

Some lenders want you employed for a good few months (at the same job) before they’d consider you for a joint mortgage.
Besides that, I’d risk it. Sounds like an exciting time for you

I would.

Provided you can get a mortgage I don't see any point in waiting.

Go for it! We moved on the Friday and I started a new job on the Monday having been home with the kids for a long time.

It's doable!

You'll get paid in a month so that's bonus money as he can afford it on his wage

You have nothing to lose and hopefully are fully employable

I'd buy it, when you get the chance. As long as the lenders are happy, then just do it.

Or are you concerned about it being stressful?
Each time I've moved house, I've had some other big life changing event happen at the same time (bereavement / new baby) . It's not how I'd have planned it, but life has a habit of doing things like that. Just do it. Anyway, if you are starting the new job in the next couple of weeks, and you haven't even put the offer in yet, then you will be well settled in the job by the time the sale all goes through and you actually move.

We just did it, started a new job and moved house. Not gonna lie, it was very stressful, but now in our dream home which makes coming home all the sweeter :-).

Go for it, I started a new job, moved and my son started school all within the same month. It was completely fine and worked for me. Good luck.

Go for it. I moved house and changed job in the same month. It was fine. I told the mortgage provider and they didn’t mind that I had a new job as long as I wasn’t being paid less than before.
