Aibu to declare The Little Red Hen the most passive-aggressive and The Princess and the Pea Princess to be the rudest of all fairy tale main characters?

The Little Red Hen with her "Who will help me plant the ear of wheat?" "I'll do it myself" thing. Totally PA. And the Princess - she turns up in the middle of a storm, the people in the castle rush round giving her the most comfortable bed they can muster and in the morning, instead of saying "I slept beautifully thank you" she grumbles about how bad the bed was and how her skin is sore. Who taught her manners?

School volunteer here....today a little one chose 'Beauty and the Beast' to read to me. Lesson learnt today... the beautiful young lady can only marry someone who is stunningly handsome. Ugly people are to be avoided except as a punishment.

No one taught her manners, that's why she was wandering around alone in the middle of a storm without her princessy mackintosh and galoshes.

Most fairy tale characters are pretty awful when it comes down to it. Though I do want to put in a word of defence for Snow White. She's much maligned, but she is only 14 and an orphan besides, so I can't get too worked up that she lacks some assertiveness. It's not her fault that her stepmother tries to have her murdered. When she finds the cottage in the woods and the dwarves there, she wants to make a contribution for living there, and she works very hard; no kids so I can't call her a SAHM, but she definitely isn't lazy or entitled.

She is a bit thick to accept food from a stranger but again...she's only a kid.

Goldilocks. Little brat breaks into someone's house, wrecks half their belongings and scoffs their breakfast.

Skinnyboneylittlepony · 20/04/2018 20:14

In the original Cinderella, she tortured her stepsisters to death after she became royalty (dancing in hot iron shoes or something).

Katurah · 20/04/2018 20:20

Best avoid The Goose Girl then....😳

ISaySteadyOn · 20/04/2018 20:51

Dancing in iron shoes was the fate of the queen in Snow White. Cinderella's sisters cut off bits of their feet to fit in the slipper and doves pecked out their eyes.

Princess and the pea - they deliberately gave her an uncomfortable bed as a test.
Little red hen - wanted the job done but no one would help, can't force people to help you, so said she'd do it herself, what else could she have done?Grin
Goldilocks is worse breaking in and destroying people's property Smile

I always quite liked Snow White's stepmother getting her comeuppance with the red hot dancing shoes. And I know the bed was a test but I stand by comment about the princess being rude.

(The P and the pea is really about checking she's a virgin, isn't it?)
