Well you would hate me, I have tattoos including, but not limited to, hello kitty, my little pony (many), little twin stars, ice cream, rainbows, fairy. I also collect blythe dolls and buy them cute outfits, dress them up, I have my little ponies and other dolls. I actually have my little pony bedding on at the moment (which no my husband does not mind). My stairs are painted as a rainbow. I am a middle aged professional woman with 2 teenage daughters.
Also I don't care these things make me happy.

yes and the Hello Kitty plane is quite a thing too!

I must admit, I'm not a huge fan but my DCs used to love the actual cartoon! And of course, Hello Kitty is supposed to live in London ( in the cartoon!)

The Disney/unicorn etc thing is absolutely fine in my view, just a nice bit of escapism. The one thing I truly absolutely do not understand is smoking.

YABU. Some people enjoy more the bare necessities of life.

As individuals we big up or put down whomever we wish based on fact, spurious reason , founded or unfounded belief, culture, and habit That’s human nature and overall we all do it

And someone online, not getting Disney isn’t putting another woman down

If one were to march up to the unicorn attired woman and take umbrage that’s a problem. Internally thinking that’s minging is fine

I'm 27 and I love Disney and some things like that, I also have a lot of other interests such as literature, knitting and what not. Interests are all different, what's not to get? People can like whatever they like Smile

I also went to see Peter Rabbit with a friend and neither of us have any children, we just went to see it because we wanted to, it was fun Grin

My three year old daughter is obsessed with all these things. So I’m feigning a love of them too.

I was never a particularly “girly girl” but actually I’m quite enjoying it Grin

YANBU I used to have a female boss who advised my male colleague to get his girlfriend Disney pyjamas for Christmas 'cos apparently "what woman doesn't love Disney?!". Me. I'm a grown up Grin

You're essentially asking why do people like things I don't like?

Report
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 20/04/2018 09:25

We all like different things, sure, but I think I can see something of what OP might be getting at. I've met one or two women who are into the pretty-kitty-rainbow-sparkly-fairy-princess stuff who are really fucking annoying to spend time with, because it's not just about how they dress, or what accessories they carry, it's the fact that they behave like they are five. All the squeaking and prancing and fake baby-talk starts to grate quite quickly.

If this is what you mean, OP, totally get it.

I’ve no issue with what people like or don’t like. It’s the behaviour that’s nauseating.

Disney pyjamas on a 45yr old look ridiculous

What about Harry Potter pyjamas on a 40 year old? Can't wait to get into mine when I get home from my grown up adult responsible blah blah job. Just need to decide whether to drink my wine out of the harry potter glass, or the unicorn glass. Decisions decisions.

I have Smurfs all over my car. It makes people smile and only miserable, self obsessed people would frown at it.

I like Disney as it reminds me of my childhood, watching the movies with my family members and the stories are full of life lessons.
It's harmless and they promote female heroes too, which is important having 2 DDs. I can't wait to take them to Disneyland and I'll enjoy it as much as they will, where's the harm?

Ugh, how do I quote on here? @hellokittymania...I think you would love my house and OP would hate it! 😉

My house also looks like a young girl has been given a large decor budget and i’m In my 40s, not Disney or unicorns but other stuff. Anyway, it’s my home and it makes me happy and makes me smile. Do other people think me weird? Probably yes, but I love it. People can keep their minimalist show homes, that for me is my worst nightmare. How boring the world would be if we were all the same 😊

In my early 20s I was definitely one of these women and I have also worked as a Disney Princess so even now over a decade later, I am still seen as “the Disney Princess”.

I don’t really identify with that anymore and just see it as a job that I did quite frequently.

This Christmas, outside of family, every single present I received from friends was Disney related. Minnie Mouse Pyjamas, Princess Jasmine Pyjamas, Princess Jasmine Mug, Disney Fiction (Tale as Old as Time, The Beast Within etc), a Beauty and the Beast Notebook (“to take to work”) and Belle Earrings. I know it sounds ungrateful but it got to the point where I wanted to cry! I just wondered if any of my friends actually know me. I wanted to scream that I’m a 34 year old woman, not a 6 year old.

I once worked in a school where all the female teachers in my department “had” to buy different themed Disney crockery to have lunch with each year...I opened the cupboard in the staff room and it was teaming with Disney mugs, plates, glasses etc. A staff member turned to me and said “You’ll have to go to the Disney Store and get yours, hun, we’re all getting Ariel this year.” I found that VERY weird. And no, I didn’t indulge but it made me quite unpopular. I wasn’t allowed to have lunch with them!

I don't really like it when people imply some interests are more worthy than others. I understand the appeal of Disney etc because they have an element of magic about them and are innocent fun. I also understand why people might enjoy learning more about historic events or different countries or whatever else might float their boat. In fact it's perfectly possible for a person to enjoy all of the aforementioned. Enjoying things that children also enjoy doesn't make the interest less valid or acceptable.
