Sitting in a waiting room, nothing to read. So I picked up last Sunday’s Times magazine, and there is a column called ‘Old Romantic’. And I thought, ahh, that’s nice, being a bit of a romantic and also quite old.
And it is supposedly written by a 79 year old man, about meeting a married woman (age undisclosed) for sex in a hotel. And not really liking her very much - “I catch myself taking a sneaky look at her watch”. And he doesn’t like the fact that she sighs a lot, “for no particular reason”.
Has anybody else read this? And can they tell me if this is journalism, or what? Am I coming over all pearl grasping and cardigan wearing here? Seems to me like it’s titillation for the ST readers, masked as some kind of interesting lifestyle feature. URGH URGH URGH.
I know it’s Thursday now, and most of these magazines will be in the recycling by now, but wondered if anybody else read it and had a WTF moment.
