To ask how you feel when the general consensus is that you are being unreasonable?

Sometimes when I read posts, even if I think 'how would you even need to ask if that's unreasonable?' I still feel a little sorry for the OP if all the replies are telling them virtually what a dick they aren't?
So if you've asked and have been told in no uncertain terms that you're basically a twat how has that made you feel.?

Pretty embarrassed and rubbish, seeing as all the responses I got were accusing me of saying something I didn't say. I asked if a certain male behaviour towards a child was wired, I got accused of calling all men rapists. It wasn't very helpful.

Catspaws · 16/04/2018 15:10

It hasn't happened to me thankfully (sure it will one day!)

I think the response of the OP makes a big difference. When they ask 'ok fair enough IWBU' people tend to be nicer and to recognise that they've acknowledged it. It's when the OP doubles down and argues with a massive consensus or adds loads of drip feed details that they tend to get a real kicking.

Catspaws · 16/04/2018 15:11

*say not ask!

Babybearsporij · 16/04/2018 17:40

I'm not that bothered. I don't get offended over it, although I do reconsider my position based on the responses I get.

ForalltheSaints · 16/04/2018 18:41

I was felt to be unreasonable a year or so back in my opinion that Mrs Brown's Boys and All Round to Mrs Brown are awful tv programmes, and unreasonable for advocating that people do or watch something different. I felt saddened by such views.

I really don’t like it when OP takes it on the chin, admits they were BU and posters continue to rip them to shreds.

blackteasplease · 16/04/2018 18:43

When I had about 50:50 responses I felt a bit embarrassed that people had taken me a lot more seriously than I intended!

blackteasplease · 16/04/2018 18:44

KT63 I agree fwiw!

KT63 · 16/04/2018 18:46

blackteasplease thanks Smile I saw one earlier where OP was BU and then admitted it and said they’d change their U behaviour and it was still just pages and pages of how shit they were!

WeirdyMcBeardy · 16/04/2018 18:46

Shitty tbh. Because it's never in a constructive way and is usually a pile on in kicking someone when they are down. I no longer post my own threads in AIBU because of shitty posters are here and I'll always defend an OP when they are being unfairly piled on. I've since found out I have aspergers so I think my interpretation of things often isn't the same as other people's. There was an odd occasion where I could see their point but generally, I still think I wasn't being U and knew no one in RL who thought I was U either. I generally find it quite contrary here and that people just enjoy being dicks to others behind their keyboards and it's not how people behave or talk to others in RL.

CatchIt · 16/04/2018 18:46

I've been told twice. One I reconsidered and decided I was BU, the second I got quite pissed off because no one read the thread properly and still kept on and on at me whilst essentially calling me a dick even though no one had answered my question. I hid the thread as I got so riled by it.

I really feel for the posters who ask a question and someone picks up on the slightest little thing and then that person gets pulled apart and their question is never answered! I see it a lot and tbh, it's really put me off posting now.

frankchickens · 16/04/2018 18:53

Thankfully (in a way) my thread got pulled for being "not in the spirit of Mumsnet" but I did feel bad as I really didn't think it was that bad.

Trouble is, you're asking for a judgement in a very select area.
