Our son has been placed at our first choice, very local school.

I'm quite introverted and not from the area so don't really know anyone. On reading the gumpf about the school and it's interaction with parents - parents forum, school council, invitation to lunch, stay and play etc - I am considering joining up to things if possible and try to give myself activities to do but also to get to know people.

Has anyone else found this?

Yes it's a great way to get involved. Before I had kids I knew very few people in my local community now I know loads including some really good friends you will probably find there is a parents facebook group set up for your child's class/year which you can join. The PTA will also be a good way to meet people.

I didn’t really have much of a social life before ds starting school tbh. Found some great friends in last few years and definitely helped MH.
According to the school though we are an unusually close year.

That sounds great for structure and interaction! Smile

Yes. Absolutely.

Do you work?

I mean to say,

Do you work? Lots of people start out doing the things you're talking about and become a TA or similar.

I did the same when my child started at preschool, it worked wonders for my social life, and my confidence. Good luck OP!

Yes I work fulltime. Being a TA or teacher in any form is my idea of a nightmare. I love my son but I'm not child friendly Grin

It just seems a great way to get involved in a community activity, mainly after work, where I can give something back, whilst also sefishly erhaps getting something for me too?
