I'm 38, I have 3DC's just had a baby (hopefully my last) and I should have taken the surgeon up on being sterilised 😩

I've used the pill (many, many years) before & Mirena coil recently but they really affected my mood. In recent years I take anti depressants which really help with my mood.

What are my options? I've been so ill after this baby I can't face another pregnancy Confused

I had a jaydess, it's a smaller version of the merina with less hormones. I'm planning on having another one fitted after I've had my 2nd.

eeanne · 16/04/2018 10:16

@scaredofthecity good experience with Jaydess? Considering it when my period comes back (BF DC2 now) as I’ve had c sections so a smaller IUD appeals to my cervix.

scaredofthecity · 16/04/2018 10:20

Definately, I'd recommend it.
It didn't stop my periods completely but made them hardly noticeable. I managed to loose all my baby weight no problems and didn't notice any mood swings.
The only thing is it lasts 3 years whilst the merina is 5.

SomeKnobend · 16/04/2018 10:23

Just my face and personality.

YoloSwaggins · 16/04/2018 10:25

@SomeKnobend 😂

VileyRose · 16/04/2018 10:26

I've been charting for 16months and using condoms on fertile days. Otherwise we just rely on me not being fertile to not conceive.

ificouldwritealettertome · 16/04/2018 10:27

The Caya diaphragm is amazing. Absolutely no hormones whatsoever so that's perfect for me. Really easy to use and it's really small so you won't notice it.

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 16/04/2018 10:29

Implant. I'm on my second and have had no problems with it. Like pp if I lean on it I get a weird sensation down my arm but actually haven't noticed it with my second one not sure if this is because of the new insertion area. I've had this one in for about 2 and a half months and have had one period. Last time I had it I could go months without a period then have it 3 weeks apart so that's the only downside side that I'm not sure when to expect it to begin.

MrsCharlesBrandon · 16/04/2018 10:31

I'm another one who doesn't do well on hormones and has the copper coil. Due to get my second replaced next year, first was removed to conceive DS.

Yes my periods are a little heavy, but I love that I simply don't have to think about contraception any more! Added bonus; if you do decide to have another then your fertility is unaffected.

notenoughbottletonight · 16/04/2018 11:14

Copper coil is amazing and I've tried a lot of contraception. Some of which has failed and left me with difficult decisions to make. My periods are more often but regular, once every three weeks, a bit heavier but much shorter.

Mrsglitterfairy · 16/04/2018 11:23

I’m on the pill and have been for years. It does affect my mood slightly but I know it will do so can deal with it now. I want to be sterilised or DH to have the snip as I don’t want more DC. DH won’t get the snip though as he doesn’t want to completely rule out having more DCs in the future although I really don’t think I want any more. We’re 32 & 35 and have 7 and 10 yr olds.
You just need to find something that works for both of you. I personally hate condoms as much as DH as I feel it takes out a bit of the spontaneity.
I really don’t get people on here moaning that your DH won’t get the snip, imagine people trying to force a woman into being sterilised Shock

FizzyGreenWater · 16/04/2018 11:25

Given your updates, abstinence then.

Or just go for sterilisation - I'd probably do that tbh.

Addictedtohavingbabies · 16/04/2018 11:26

Sterilisation. I had it done during my 4th c section and haven't regretted it for a second. We can have sex without a second thought about condoms, pill etc.

PatButchersEarring · 16/04/2018 11:29

Currently my partner's personality.

mummyof2boys30 · 16/04/2018 11:30

Does anyone know what age the dr will refer you for DH to have the snip. Hes willing as our family is complete Ds8 and Ds5

Shoxfordian · 16/04/2018 11:30

I use an implant; works really well for me

MrsPreston11 · 16/04/2018 11:31

The implant. Much lower hormone dose than the pill. Last for 3 years.

I like the sound of Mirena but I'm too scared to get one fitted! Local anaesthetic for the implant which means it's fine to have put in/taken out.

BodgingThisMumThing · 16/04/2018 11:37

Condoms

MakeMineALarge1 · 16/04/2018 11:39

Implant. Had first one put in in 2008 and have them changed every 3 years. Never had any issues and not had a period since.

MrsPreston11 · 16/04/2018 11:41

@MakeMineALarge1

Do you have to swap arms every couple of implants? I was told when I got my current one I'd have to switch next time, so I'm wondering what'll happen after that?

YoloSwaggins · 16/04/2018 11:42

I don't really get the "condoms stop us being spontaneous" thing - it takes like 10 seconds to put one on!

Then again, we're not spontaneous people. It'll be like "shall we do it today?" "OK, when?" "In an hour, I need to wash up and finish watching my show first" 😜

Lifeaback · 16/04/2018 11:46

I'm pregnant with number 4 now and dh is booked in for a vasectomy. If he was against it, then I'd probably go back on the copper coil

Coastalcommand · 16/04/2018 11:46

How do you mean, useless with condoms?

Barbaro · 16/04/2018 11:54

I would choose sterilisation if I could. But I know at the age of 28 what the doctors response will be. So implant for now.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 16/04/2018 11:57

Condoms. After having my oldest I can’t tolerate hormonal contraception. The implant between her and the youngest was fine in regards to my mood/anxiety but I bled constantly after the first year. My husband is waiting on his vasectomy as we both decided we don’t want another one. We can’t afford it, don’t have the space and I don’t want to go through pregnancy and the recovery from it again.
