who is currently moving house again and rang DP just now (7.15pm) and asked him to come and help him move some stuff?

We only have weekends together and the kids have been really getting to me this week, i was looking forward to a film and a cuddle

My dh is often asked to help out with his sisters and parents at the weekend. It is annoying, but on the flip side, they are nearly always willing to help us out.

When my MIL moved, she hadn't sold the house first - so she took bugger all with her, and dh spent the best part of three months going round most evenings and doing packing.

It won't last forever, you'll get him back soon enough. And at least he's a nice enough person to want to help her ...

Depends on what other help she had really. I know if I was to move house now, i'd need my brothers to help out and one lives with his girlfriend whom i'd like to think wouldn't feel to put out.

Actually in reality she would be the one offering my brothers services . He has helped so much more since he started going out with her.

maybe im just being selfish but him pissing off to help her move at 7.30 on a saturday night wasn't exactly on my list of plans for the weekend IYKWIM

A bit more notice would have been polite. I think you have grounds to feel disgruntled on that note.

Don't think you are being selfish at all unless she has always been on hand to help you with kids and feels you kind of owe her IYSWIM. I sometimes wonder why people can't cope withthings like moves without calling on all the relatives. When I was a child we moved house 5 times -not once with any help from relatives. Since we have all left home, my parents have moved house 3 times and never even considered asking for help.

It depends on how urgent it was. If she needed help setting up her bed, finding the cups and plates etc, and generally finding the stuff she needed for the night then it's perfectly reasonable. If she just wanted the furniture moving around to make it look better then I agree it could probably have waited until the next day. I think I would expect my dh/dp to want to help his mum to move (unless they'd had huge rows etc).

I suppose the test is whether you would have thought it unreasonable if your own mother had called for help.
