To think that the bride's been cheeky here!

Alright, so there's a girl I met at uni who's now getting married. We're not close at all, but she's been very kind and invited me to her wedding. Evening only.

As the wedding is hours away, there's only one hotel close by with ridiculous rates, and I'd only be invited from 8:30pm anyway, I'm planning on not going. I went to go and click the 'sorry, can't make it' option on her RSPV website when I saw the ride share list on there.

I've been put down to drive (what appears to be) one of her elderly relatives from my hometown. Never offered this, have never met the elderly relative in question, haven't really spoken to the bride about the wedding at all Confused Messaged another friend who's been invited to evening early and is down on the list to rideshare with someone elderly, same thing with her!

I've never declined an invitation so fast. Not sure if I've been invited as a friend or because I've got a car and happen to be from the same place as her relative!

And lol, wonder how many declines and empty spots from no rides she’ll have.

KichenDancefloor · 20/04/2018 23:42

@whywhywhywhywhyyy

Sorry not rft today. Did you know this ended up in the daily fail?
If CFB has had a meltdown over this conversation, wait till she she's that farticle.

ReanimatedSGB · 21/04/2018 01:21

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Silly moo. I'll be watching this thread with great interest, OP.

whywhywhywhywhyyy · 21/04/2018 01:45

I hadn't seen it in the fail, but I'd like to clarify and make clear that i'm neither outraged nor a mother Grin

Wouldn't it be awful if someone set up a hotmail account just to email the DS & DM links to her and then immediately deleted the hotmail account

Also place marking - I've seen some corkers on this site, but this one is pretty special!

Nearlyadad · 21/04/2018 08:39

Oof

cindersrella · 21/04/2018 08:47

Are you sure you sure you invite says guest and not taxi?

It's quite laughable really, She clearly has thicker skin than a rhino 😂

mrsheathy85 · 21/04/2018 08:50

Excellent OP!!! Can't wait to hear about all PA memes and quotes she's going to post today 😂😂

Lizzie48 · 21/04/2018 09:06

She really has shot herself in the foot by being so entitled. If she'd asked politely they may well have been happy to help out. I found that when I was planning my wedding, quite a few guests were very happy to give lifts. But I only approached people who went to my church, so I knew them very well.

This is biggest case of bridezilla that I've ever seen on MN, or in RL. I wonder how many guests will go for her f•••ing special day!! Grin

Nearlyadad · 21/04/2018 09:13

Went looking for the mail story so googled “mail wedding lift”.

Double oof!

Aeroflotgirl · 21/04/2018 09:18

Oh god, she has a bigger front than the Hollywood sign, what planet is she on. No manners or decorum. Yiu ask people first!

Aeroflotgirl · 21/04/2018 09:23

She just invited you, for you to give the relative a lift.

KichenDancefloor · 21/04/2018 09:38

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5630169/Mother-outraged-discovering-offered-driver-friends-wedding.html

Here's the article. Comes with the usual disclaimer of don't click if you don't want to add to encourage lazy 'journalism' yadda, yadda.

Theweasleytwins · 21/04/2018 10:37

(Place marking)

I was a brides made for an old school friend a while ago. Went for make up trials, I was a tad late, everyone had chosen the same hideous green eyeshadow, I was asked if I wanted a nude eye or the same as everyone else🙄what could I say

Stayed over the night before wedding where we had to set up for the wedding, told we would be 1/2 hour then food. Three hours later we got Pizza Hut, told to keep some for breakfast as bride didn't have any food in the house. I was early stages pregnant and ravenous/nauseous

Woken up so early on the morning for hair and make up, then sat around for ages. Turns out we didn't need to be woken up that early. I dozed off several times in the chair

SimonBridges · 21/04/2018 11:43

I notice the Mail assume the op is a mother..... other people post on MN too you know.

FullMetalRabbit · 21/04/2018 12:08

Why do these people need lifts arranged for them anyway? are they not....you know.....adults?

milliemolliemou · 21/04/2018 12:19

@fullmetal most people can make their own way, true, but some elderly rellies might not be able to drive or fit to drive that distance. And if it is a long way it does cut down on petrol if you share.

QueenDaisy · 21/04/2018 12:20

OMG what an absolute CFB, I’m fairly new to Mumsnet (sometime last year) and this has to be the best CF thread I’ve read, sorry that this is happening your life OP Flowers

lynzpynz · 21/04/2018 12:22

Shameless place marking Grin

Can not believe the gaol of this CFB - guests are not obliged to be free un-consulted taxis! Sad thing is those less confident enough to say “f* off” will probably accommodate her ridiculous expectations Angry

Maybe MN should have an award each year for the cheekiest request. Well perhaps from 2019 as it must be an award already won this year.

FullMetalRabbit · 21/04/2018 14:02

milliemolliemou

completely agree with everything you said

what I meant was (I was probably unclear) why do they need someone to do their arranging for them

eg. my nan who was in her 90s was more than capable of speaking to her own daughters to get herself to wherever she needed to be

Willow2017 · 21/04/2018 14:41

milliemo
But before arranging cat shares for every sodding guest to and from your wedding maybe it would have been prudent to ask the car drivers first?

I wouldn't want to spend hours in a car with strangers for 2 days.
I might be going somewhere else/have plans to stay for some reason after the wedding.

Stupid cf had no right to tell her relatives that she had arranged lifts for them either. Who tells adults "You are going with X whome you have never met but thats tough."? Maybe her relatives are mortified she has done this without asking them first either?

I have a relative who is 89. They can get themselves to Australia, a bloody wedding would be a dawdle😀

Tinlegs · 21/04/2018 14:42

Willow "cat shares" would be brilliant. Great typo. Would love to go to a wedding with cat sharing as an option.
