Smoked 2 puffs of a joint

gingernut45 · 15/04/2018 02:43

Ok so really stupid and I smoked 2 puffs of a joint of cannabis resin. I would normally breastfed. Obviously now I won't.

I don't need judgement just advice. How would this affect my milk. Baby is 12 months old and takes a bottle fine so tonight is the end of the breastfeeding journey.

It would do fuck all. I wouldn't worry.

CrazyOldBagLady · 15/04/2018 02:48

With two puffs there will be a tiny amount in your blood stream and s negligible amount in your milk. You don’t have to give up breastfeeding because of this. No harm will come to your baby if this is a rare event.

ArnoldBee · 15/04/2018 02:50

Yep the research shows there is only an impact with long term heavy use so forget about it and move on.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/04/2018 03:02

If you want to stop BFing, stop BFing. But if you don't, two puffs of a joint isn't a reason.

gingernut45 · 15/04/2018 03:11

Omg thank you all so much for your quick responses and non judgmental advice

I don't really want to give up breastfeeding but I had a small, quick lapse in judgement. I thought I had literally poisoned my baby forever.

There are limited stats out there because it wouldn't be ethical to have mothers smoke it and then BF their babies, but whatever effect you get from it will be diluted massively in the breastmilk you feed to your baby. I am not a scientist but I can't believe that the effect of the cannabis would outweigh the positive benefits of BF, such as disease immunity.

gingernut45 · 15/04/2018 03:49

Honestly thank you all so much. I literally spend my days worrying over what Iv consumed and I am only bf once a day. I got drunk tonight for the first time in forever and then stupidity smok d some dope. It's the not the norm for me and I generally stick to a healthy diet with zero alcohol. I have tried to bring myself back down to earth with a bang and your comments have really helped.

I'm glad. There's no point beating yourself up over something so inconsequential. Get some rest and start again as you mean to go on.

Hausfullofgrls · 15/04/2018 04:59

I've smoked since I was 15. Never stopped. I have 3 kids, all breastfed. They're perfect. Don't beat yourself up. It's not a "hard drug". You're perfectly ok to BF. Breathe.

Tattybogle89 · 15/04/2018 05:05

@Haus I’m not sure what you smoked but that’s hardly something to be proud of

Hausfullofgrls · 15/04/2018 05:08

@Tattybogle89 did I say I was proud? And it's just marijuana. I was reassuring a nervous mom that she's hasn't done any harm. That's all.

Tattybogle89 · 15/04/2018 05:27

Wow.

MrsLemonadeBrain · 15/04/2018 07:56

You’ll be fine love. You clearly care deeply about your dc and breastfeeding. If you feel like you want to, you could express and dispose of today’s milk, but I think with two tokes the impact would be negligible.
I’m sure we’ve all been drunk and made descisions we regret from time to time.
Go easy on yourself
You sound like you love your bubs a lot. Flowers

HopefullyAnonymous · 15/04/2018 08:31

Where was your DC at the time?

gingernut45 · 15/04/2018 09:06

Thanks for all your comments. Especially yours hopefully anonymous. He was in the care of his father at the time, in the house and safely tucked up in bed, where he should be at midnight. Funnily enough there are two parents in this house and we both share the childcare to allow the other to let their hair down

I wouldn’t worry at all over 2 puffs personally

GreenVoyage · 15/04/2018 09:08

You're a mother now with a baby to take care of. Grow up!

insancerre · 15/04/2018 09:13

Greenvoyage
Wow,
Don't worry, your parent of the year award is safe

It was 2 puffs

Belphegor · 15/04/2018 09:13

"Where was your DC at the time?"

Why is this relevant?

Grandmaswagsbag · 15/04/2018 09:16

It will be fine. You don’t need to stop breastfeeding.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 15/04/2018 09:19

As PPs say it will be fine, but it sounds like you might have an anxiety issue to deal with. It's not normal to worry daily about how everything you put in your mouth affects your baby.

BastardGoDarkly · 15/04/2018 09:25

Op, I hope you're reassured. What you've smoked isn't harmful at all.

Ignore all the pearl clutching, the majority will have swigged gin while their kids sleep, horses for courses, you're fine.

Stirner · 15/04/2018 09:38

The absolute hysteria of mumsnet is shining through "where was your baby at the time?" Obviously in bed under the care of a responsible adult, but because op had a couple of pulls on a spliff it was assumed that the infant was being neglected. Crazy.

gingernut45 · 15/04/2018 23:04

Thank you all.

Sorry to be so needy but I'm sitting here panicking thinking even if I do breastfeed tomorrow then will any THC (is that the right thing?) pass on to him?

Thinking of every eventuality here but let's say he needs a blood test tomorrow, would this show if I fed him? Would any THC pass to him do you think?

I know the risk is high for continued use but there has been no continued use. Just 2 puffs 🙁
