No one visiting a great grandfather in hospital

Is it me or is it rather odd that the first visitor the Duke of Edinburgh (96) has had in hospital was Princess Anne after 8 days of him being in there?

Not that I give a shit about the royals but would you leave it that long before anyone in your family bothered to turn up to visit your elderly husband, Dad, father, grandfather? Stiff upper lip or what?

I thought it was the first visitor that we knew of. I've been a patient in that hospital. You don't exactly need family bringing you drinks and grub and clean jim jams. And my room was next to the ice machine.

We don't know if he's had or would have wanted visitors.

How do you know it was the first visitor? Probably just the first one the Press managed to photograph. And if you don't give a shit about the royals YABU to post about it here.

Sorry its been discussed before. I made the mistake of leading my life and not sitting on mumsnet all day! Just read the news tonight: Princess Anne his first visitor since going into hospital on 4th April.

I campaign for care and respect for older people so this stuff matters to me.

I think HRH Prince Philip is pretty well respected actually.

I think that you cannot assume that the BBC are aware of private visits.

He’s not some neglected old man. I’m sure he's had people with him every day.
