To be annoyed that we are not even getting a paid day off work for Royal wedding?

I am not a Royalist. Taxpayers money is being used to provide security. And to top it all off, we are not even getting a paid day off work for it. At least with other big Royal weddings we had a day off to enjoy.

Hmm
TSSDNCOP · 12/04/2018 12:27

But listen to all those people, including you, that think the Royalty suck. You can’t hate the whole thing, think everyone else should too and sulk because you’ve not got a week day public holiday.

So for all those compromised souls it’s fortunately been set for a Saturday.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 12/04/2018 12:28

Would you expect a paid day off for some other random royals wedding, like one of Sarah Fergusons kids, who are technically princesses?
Harry is never going to be king, unlike William who stands a good chance of being, so it's very different from their wedding. I doubt this one will have nearly as much fuss, i'm not even sure it's being televised.

TSSDNCOP · 12/04/2018 12:30

Oh I do hope it is Almost, I hope the BBC have got Dimnlebys covering the whole thing. I love a Royal Wedding.

snash12 · 12/04/2018 12:31

Lol, cake eater!

Curtainshopping · 12/04/2018 12:32

It’s not a state occasion, hence no day off.

RaininSummer · 12/04/2018 12:32

Last time we got given a day (jubilee??) I lost a day of annual leave for it so no thank you to a day off for a bloody wedding. We don't all have generous employers.

YABU. I didn't even get a free bank holiday when my sister got married, nevermind someone I've never met!

DidNotThinkItWouldHappenHere · 12/04/2018 12:38

You can have a paid day off if you want it and you get your holiday request in on time.

Why the hell should your employer pay you to not work, just because somebody that you have little interest in is getting married?

MoggyP · 12/04/2018 12:38

Well, if you want to double the security cost (police wages bill being the biggies, and putting them on bank hold rates is frigging expensive) then this would be a damned fine way of achieving it.

Oneofthosedreadfulparents · 12/04/2018 12:41

From the perspective of a small employer, who has a planned workload to get through and customers who don't really want to be let down, I'm not annoyed at all. Suspect my team wouldn't really want the stress of trying to get on top of their jobs after an enforced day off either!
How would your employer be making up for lost productivity?

expatinscotland · 12/04/2018 12:43

He's not even a spare anymore, so of course no day off when some random gets married.

Colonelpopcorn · 12/04/2018 12:43

Why should your employer pay from their pocket to give you a day off? They didn’t want another royal wedding.

BakedBeans47 · 12/04/2018 12:44

YABU

it’s on a Saturday anyway

viques · 12/04/2018 12:47

At the start of every school holiday I used to pray for the Queen Mothers continued good health in case they gave a national holiday for her funeral. In the end they didn't , but clearly my prayers helped to keep the old dear alive for years and years......

thedevilinablackdress · 12/04/2018 12:58

To what level of royalty should we get a day off OP?

thedevilinablackdress · 12/04/2018 13:00

And if we're getting annoyed about taxpayer's £ being used to police public events I think we should start with football matches that are on every week all over the county for a l large part of the year.

AWaspOnAWindowInAHeatwave · 12/04/2018 13:03

I didn't get a paid day off when I got married, I had to book annual leave. Why would I get a paid day off to watch someone else's wedding? Especially when I'm not even going?

LifeBeginsAtGin · 12/04/2018 13:04

Good point Devil.

mummymeister · 12/04/2018 13:05

i am really not a royalist. so I am delighted that there is no day off for this wedding. I wish them both well, as I would do any couple getting married. I am still though very annoyed that I am paying for it. so it wont be on the telly or radio in our house and as far as I am concerned its just another day.

LaurieMarlow · 12/04/2018 13:06

I'm with you OP, it would have been a nice gesture. William's wedding set a bit of a precedent and while I wouldn't expect it for any of the cousins, I think it should have been extended to his brother too.

dancinfeet · 12/04/2018 13:08

I am self employed - if I don't work, I don't get paid. As a single parent I need my wage to provide for my family, so I will be holding all my saturday dance classes as normal. If anyone wants to skip their dance lesson on that day to watch the royal wedding on TV that's up to them, but the class will need to be paid for, attended or not.

GnotherGnu · 12/04/2018 13:10

Do you normally work on Saturdays, OP?
