To be annoyed that we are not even getting a paid day off work for Royal wedding?

I am not a Royalist. Taxpayers money is being used to provide security. And to top it all off, we are not even getting a paid day off work for it. At least with other big Royal weddings we had a day off to enjoy.

Funnily enough, I appreciate this, but when was the last time you heard of a bank holiday being on a Saturday?

Well it's pretty obvious that was deliberate. If they'd decided to give us a bank holiday they would have had it on a Friday. I don't think any of the guests are particularly insistent on a saturday wedding.

LaurieMarlow · 12/04/2018 14:36

I just want an extra days paid leave

Yeah, me too Grin

Annette1234 · 12/04/2018 14:39

Are you aware who actually has to pay for your extra days leave?

ilovesooty · 12/04/2018 14:42

Paid leave for some random wedding? Ridiculous idea.
I quite enjoyed the day off for William 's wedding though. It tacked on nicely to my already planned leave to visit the Netherlands for Queen's Day as it was then. As he got married I was on the plane.

crunchymint · 12/04/2018 15:56

You do know if there is an extra days Bank Holiday, and you work on a Saturday, that you get another paid day off instead? Last time it was just added to my annual leave. And yes I got it as I only get the statutory minimum. And my employer can afford to pay for it, so I wouldn't be worried about them.

It’s also not compulsory for employers to give the additional bank holiday, even if there was one.

DidNotThinkItWouldHappenHere · 12/04/2018 17:38

Op, you are funny.

If you want an extra days paid leave, ask your boss.

Don't try and pin it to an event you have no interest in anyway!

Tink2007 · 12/04/2018 17:39

*BakedBeans47 - yes, very true.

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 12/04/2018 17:44

YABU, so unreasonable you are just taking the p* to get a reaction.

Entitled much?

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 12/04/2018 17:45

Your OH is self employed, does he employ staff?

GirlsBlouse17 · 12/04/2018 18:16

Maggie Thatcher quite rightly banned Prince Andrew and Fergie's wedding day from being a public holiday. Same thing here with Prince Harry. Not important enough to be made an official day off

ForalltheSaints · 12/04/2018 18:18

I am not annoyed. Disappointed they picked the same day as the FA Cup Final, especially if Manchester United are not there.

I would prefer a day to remember those who died in the First World War, 100 years ago.

Joey7t8 · 12/04/2018 18:35

It costs Londoners about £12m per season for premier league matches. Only about half of that isnever recovered from clubs.

So it costs Londoners £6m to police London’s 10 professional clubs? Doesn’t seem like much to ensure the safety of 200-300 thousand fans (mostly London council tax payers) 20 odd times a year.

Ivorbig1 · 12/04/2018 18:36

I can’t even feign interest for this wedding, two smug faced rich twits being adored for free. No thanks, no shits to give.

As we do annually on the 11th November?

stateschool · 13/04/2018 08:03

YANBU . I can see absolutely no other benefits of having a royal family other than the odd day off!

Step · 13/04/2018 08:24

1.Country n Economic mire, Brexshit looming and cost of this stupid
2.Minor royal
3.Ridiculous expense anyhow.
4.Hate this lot as it perpetuates an outmoded class system

Let's see - No. No way, and they need to pay for it themselves.

DobbyisFREE · 13/04/2018 09:45

I don't think anyone's wedding warrants a back holiday... but the last one did so this should too. It's not like it's some distant relation, he's part of the core family!

VikingVolva · 13/04/2018 09:57

"As we do annually on the 11th November?"

Actually, having a Bank Holiday about then would be rather nice, as a long weekend in the second half of the autumn term would be a nice break. Perhaps we shouid move one of the May ones?

And of course 29 Feb shouid always be one.

SquirmOfEels · 13/04/2018 10:09

"So it costs Londoners £6m to police London’s 10 professional clubs? Doesn’t seem like much to ensure the safety of 200-300 thousand fans (mostly London council tax payers) 20 odd times a year."

There are 5 premier league clubs in London. And those attending matches will not all be Londoners - I would say around 50%, but given that fan bases of some aren't particularly local, it might be lower.

So I think your crowd size figures might be on the high side. I make it about 125,000 home team supporters (not necessarily Londoners, and based on West Ham actually filling half of Wembley) if they were all playing at home and not playing each other.

But I think the main point is that football clubs don't pay for their policing. They make a contribution, in arrears.
