to wonder where all the metalheads have gone?

I never see any metallers anymore (long hair, metal shirts, leather/denim jackets, patches etc). When I was younger there were loads of us. Now you don't see any, they have completely disappeared as have all the great venues. I am still one (albeit old) but I miss seeing young metalheads in all their gear. Where have they all gone?

Still here! I'm still a metalhead but absolutely don't look it. I was thinking about starting a thread about this...

Shame heavy metal isn't more fashionable! It gives a good outlet to Angry Young People IMO.

On a nice sunny day, rock up to the 'Ponderosa,' on the top of the Horseshoe Pass near Llangollen in Wales.

There are often anything from 20 to 50 'rockers' and metalheads up there, leather-clad, huge motorbikes, some with beards 2 feet long, and aged between 30 and 60. They're always lovely too. A couple of them changed my tyre for me when I ended up with a flat there last September. Smile

Sometimes they have big meetings up there, and there are a couple of hundred of them. (See pic 3...) Smile

But yeah, they did seem to be a lot more common pre 1990's......

waves

Some young people enjoy the music without adopting the whole look. DS1 is going to see Trivium next week. Apart from the occasional band t-shirt, he dresses conventionally.

Waves 😊 Still here...now looking far more old and boring but still listening to metal/grunge/alt.

LemonysSnicket · 12/04/2018 23:16

I’m 22 and know quite a few ...

Ginkypig · 12/04/2018 23:56

Iv not read the thread yet but wanted to give you a little wave Smile

Dp has not long cut of his (beautiful) long hair but now has a really cool Mohawk.
Still has the denim and leather though.

Ginkypig · 12/04/2018 23:57

I should mention we are 30's me and late 40's him.

theoldtrout01876 · 13/04/2018 00:26

morbidangel They are all in my house Grin. My Dc are metalheads, oldest has a well known ( in the field) band. I am not, nor have I ever been a metalhead but do like a lot of the music. Metal is alive and well over here.

The radio station I listen to in the mornings has a dude on there that hosts a local metal show on a saturday night, hes a true metal head and all the local bands send their music in and get it played on the radio on saturday night. Its cool and there is a lot of metal talent out there

JustGettingStarted · 13/04/2018 00:51

I was into thrash and crossover/hardcore in the 80's.

These days, I like death metal and grindcore.

I was going to gigs until recently - since I quit drinking, I don't enjoy gigs as much.

Many of my friends in even the most brutal bands don't look the part in their everyday lives. They just put on a shirt for a gig.

halfwitpicker · 13/04/2018 01:02

I guess I'm way old now but I looked around that night and every single guy had a sailor style beard and a lumberjack shirt coupled with the old style ale pint glasses from the bar

^

I feel this. There's a lot of guys who do just look like garden gnomes these days.
