to wonder where all the metalheads have gone?

I never see any metallers anymore (long hair, metal shirts, leather/denim jackets, patches etc). When I was younger there were loads of us. Now you don't see any, they have completely disappeared as have all the great venues. I am still one (albeit old) but I miss seeing young metalheads in all their gear. Where have they all gone?

They're all hanging out in forests and old graveyards for their band photos!

morbidangel · 11/04/2018 18:10

Northern Sweden is jammed packed with the knuckle draggers. Can't swing a denim jacket without hitting at least 10 of em with metal band badge.

My favourite kind of people. Looks up flights to Northern Sweden. Books ticket Grin.

FYI, I still mostly wear jeans and band/geek shirts, I am pondering a midlife crisis and splurging on some new New Rocks and leather studded bracelets, as I wore in my youth...

IStillMissBlockbuster · 11/04/2018 18:12

Maybe they're all at home with their cats

Willow2017 · 11/04/2018 18:13

' I look nothing like a metal fan - bit frumpy and 50😁 but i still love a bit of old school now and again, loud and proud to clear the cobwebs.

ds1is into 'system of a down' independant of me or his dad who liked them years ago. Must be in his genes😁

OnionKnight · 11/04/2018 18:14

We are still here but some of us have to dress 'appropriately' for corporate environments Sad

MajorMalfunction · 11/04/2018 18:15

Another one here!
I still rock my band tshirts, traded in my new rocks for DMs though Grin
Alot of the decent places by me closed down or were sold off which seems to be a trend at the moment Sad

PurpleCrowbar · 11/04/2018 18:15

I'm now the only goth in Cairo Wink.

Still to be found in my old haunts on visits to UK though...

Sammy900 · 11/04/2018 18:16

I went to an old pub in town where all the alternative bods used to hang out when I was younger and there used to be a mixture of grebs, rockers, indie kids, skaters, grunge types, goths - great fun :)

I guess I'm way old now but I looked around that night and every single guy had a sailor style beard and a lumberjack shirt coupled with the old style ale pint glasses from the bar - I thought in my drunken state at the time I was on a pirate ship and everyone was going to break into sea shanties any minute yo hoho

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 11/04/2018 18:17

Still a small group of teen/student-aged kids near me with Marilyn Manson t-shirts, trenchcoats and those "bondage" pants with all the pockets and chains. It's like 2001 never stopped happening.

UsedtobeFeckless · 11/04/2018 18:19

They're all round at my place ... Grin
Plenty of the Right Sort when we went to see Alestorm last month ...

MajorMalfunction · 11/04/2018 18:19

Blimey i had a good few pairs of them bondage pants 'pavement sweepers' a few people called them

GothMummy · 11/04/2018 18:21

I'm still here but I'm old and wear harris tweed now. I'm no longer identifiable as a metaller nor as a goth. However I still listen to the music, have the radio tuned to Planet Rock and am settling down tonight with DS (12) to watch Rock of Ages. DS lives for Kiss and Def Leppard, so I did something right ;) DD (6) is obsessed with Joan Jett :)

TalkFastThinkSlow · 11/04/2018 18:22

DP is one but he cut his hair for work to look more respectable :( he did it before we got together but I've seen the pics, it was all the way down his back. I keep telling him he needs to grow it back.

I am partial to symphonic metal Grin

IStillMissBlockbuster · 11/04/2018 18:22

I must check out 'goth square' in Birmingham to see if they're still there. They were the last time I checked!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 11/04/2018 18:22

Appropriately, goth square is a church yard area. Grin

clutteringfunt · 11/04/2018 18:38

Occasional get to wear my Iron Maiden or Metallica t-shirts but mostly spend my time looking far too mumsy!
Just bought DD her first drum kit though and she loves it.

FailingMotherhood · 11/04/2018 18:41

My husband recently reminded me that I shouldn't have death metal on in the car when transporting our wee one. But he likes Radiohead, so his opinion is invalid.

Moonflower12 · 11/04/2018 18:47

My 27 year old daughter has inherited my genes and is a metal head and about to get married to the front man for a metal band. (YouTube: Broken Jaw- Beneath my skin- unashamed plug!)
I am currently training up my 5 year old too.

SquiggleSqueek · 11/04/2018 18:53

My toddler has DMs, a leather perfecto jacket... she looks the part and loves to listen to Pantera & Gojira.... she's also obsessed with Zakk Wylde... Daddy however has too much of a receeding hairline to have long hair nowadays... as for me I only die my hair now to hide the grey (not very rock 'n roll Smile) can't wait for DD to be old enough to come with us to HellFest (we live in France)

UsedtobeFeckless · 11/04/2018 18:53

Local schools Battle of The Bands had a front row full of proud middle-aged metallers ( like DP ) discretely dabbing their eyes as their offspring shredded away ... lt was very sweet! Grin

starzig · 11/04/2018 18:57

I don't think the band's you like are as defined by your look as much as it used to be. I know plenty of metalheads that don't have long hair and biker jackets. You wouldn't really know what they were into if you passed them in the street.

That being said you still see a lot of specific genre dressing at gigs, unlike Europe where people don't really dress a particular way at gigs

member · 11/04/2018 18:59

Maybe the success of Judas Priest’s latest album will herald a resurgence Grin Tbf, I was a fan of metal during the 80s & 90s but was relatively tame with the look; no patches or New Rocks but shaggy permed to the hilt!

UsedtobeFeckless · 11/04/2018 19:10

Iron Maiden sold out huge shows in London last year, so did Sabbath ... Metallica tickets go just like that - the club down the road has metal nights with five or six bands every month ... Sonisphere and Bloodstock are huge festivals - the force is strong with these ones Wink

zeebeedee · 11/04/2018 19:17

My 17 yr old DS2 has the look (long hair, leather jacket, old black jeans etc) but if you managed to get his headphones off him, it would most likely be 80s commercial pap pop!*

*deliberately, to confound the stereotypes people come out with when they see his look!
