Am I being U to be concerned about the gymnastics at the Games?

Sometimes have the C Games on in the morning to avoid the news programmes. When the women/girl gymnastics competition was on I was struck how these girls are made to look. Perhaps it is because of the US coaching case of abuse, but the costumes are so tight, the faces made up, eyebrows plucked, hair pulled back - they look like china dolls.. I realise this happens in all such competitions. The men don't have to wear tight shorts do they?

Some of the men wear tight outfits. I was actually struck by how untidy some of the women looked this year, and was pleased that there wasn’t such an emphasis on how they looked. The hair being off the face is a safety thing though, you can’t have it wafting around to get stuck or trapped under your hands or feet.

I was saying to DH the other day that I thought the glitz and glam element detracted from the strength and skill the women were displaying. It's a shame they have to prance to music on the floor when the men do a straight series of moves. They're having to display themselves as well as their talent, which is unfair and has no place in sport.
