I was told this today by someone wearing so much polyester she'd ignite if she ran upstairs too fast.

Oh dear. I'm 46 and recently bought a new Muse t-shirt. Love the band and took my older two to see them on their last tour. They were not embarrassed to see me wear my t-shirt and they are peak embarrassment age, 16 and 14. If you were at my work wearing a band t-shirt I would love it!

JacquesHammer · 11/04/2018 13:37

kids rolling stones t-shirts etc are not fine!

My DD listens to them a lot so has a t-shirt. She also loves The Ramona and Guns n Roses. I love being able to buy her t-shirts for bands she likes.

OP you’re not too old. I have a collection of band tees I intend to wear for many years to come!

MrsPMT · 11/04/2018 13:40

No chance! I'm 45 & love a band t-shirt, but agree that you have to actually like them, so teenage girls in Nirvana-yawn!

I like them for general wear, gardening, dog-walking, if you bend over to pick up poo no one sees down your top!
Unlike lots of 'womens' tops Grin

Sarsparella · 11/04/2018 13:40

Wear what you want! Clothes come in sizes, not ages once you're an adult :)

Most of my dads wardrobe is band tshirts, he's 64 and I don't think it'll ever change now!

Charley50 · 11/04/2018 13:47

I'm 48 an it's so not old anymore. Wear what the fuck you want.

MrsPMT · 11/04/2018 13:48

Robert Downey Jr looks hot in his! (just an excuse to post a pic!)

Tobestronger · 11/04/2018 13:51

Wear what you want at any age. My youngest dc is 15 and their mates are really into 80s and 90s bands.

user1486915549 · 11/04/2018 14:00

Well since the performers in most of the top bands are MUCH older than you you are not being unreasonable at all !

AnnabelleLecter · 11/04/2018 14:02

I wear them at 49, DH is 51 and wears them.

Should we cancel all our festival tickets, gigs, live music at the pubs nights out too because someone can't cope with the fact that people are no longer old fogies at 39?
Nope.

halfwitpicker · 11/04/2018 14:02

Let's face it RDJ would look good in nowt

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/04/2018 14:03

YANBU. Is 50 too old to wear a tattooist t-shirt? Said tattooist gave it to me when I told him it was my birthday, so it has happy memories attached to it.

Cocolepew · 11/04/2018 14:06

Tbf the woman is a totally misery guts. I wouldn't wear what she does if you paid me but I'm not rude enough to mention it. Wear whatever you like.
I also have my nose pierced and tattos do I'm quite high on her inappropriate list.
A woman came in with blue and purple hair and she nearly lost her shit 💩 .
Not sure who made her clothes monitor.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/04/2018 14:07

insancerre could you please tell my mother that? Hmm

DobbyisFREE · 11/04/2018 14:07

Bollocks to her. I've already planned my retirement outfits - I'm going full on punk with bright pink hair (whatever is left of it). I definitely plan on a few feather boas and leopard print coats as well. I shall tickle anyone that judges me with my boas until they admit defeat.

Cocolepew · 11/04/2018 14:07

Wear whatever makes you happy Perfectly.

Cocolepew · 11/04/2018 14:08

I have 2 leopard print coats 😊

Thank you. And the same to you. Smile

BarricadesBabe · 11/04/2018 14:12

I was wearing a Blondie tshirt a few years ago. I came face to face with a teen wearing the exact same one. She obviously was scundered at some old woman wearing the same as her and loudly protested to her friends that I was waaay too old to be wearing it

OP, I hope you pointed out to her that Debbie Harry is 73! (And so 70 or thereabouts when the ridiculous comment was made.)

I entirely agree with PP that the only other requirement is familiarity with the band and their music.

shakeatailfeather · 11/04/2018 14:13

Tell her to jog on! Or start commenting on what she wears.

mrspmt thanks for the lovely picture!!! Mmmmm

Beyond11cisRetinol · 11/04/2018 14:14

As above, I'd rather seen an 80 year old in a band tshirt of a band they love than a 20 year old in a fashion brand tshirt featuring a band they've never heard of.

I'm mid thirties and 90% of my wardrobe is band (and festival) t shirts 🤘

ANameforToday · 11/04/2018 14:14

DobbyisFREE you wouldn't happen to be a Nicky Wire fan would you?
I still buy band t--shirts when I go to most gigs and wear them out and about. My DH has held on to one of his, it was originally black but is now grey with very little of the image left but he loved it so much.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 11/04/2018 14:15

Why don't you offer to give her a makeover? She sounds in dire need of a zip on her mouth. Wink

Beyond11cisRetinol · 11/04/2018 14:18

And DH is older than me and his wardrobe is about 90% WWE tshirts 😂

WonderTweek · 11/04/2018 14:18

My mum is in her sixties and still wears her Iron Maiden and Muse shirts and I think it’s awesome. I only ever wear band t-shirts and I’m lucky to work in a place without a strict uniform policy so I can wear what I want. Halo

Graphista · 11/04/2018 14:24

Good excuse to post:

www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poetry/poems/warning

Albeit poet was only 29 when it was written Grin

She sounds like she needs the stick removing from her arse - where the hell do you work?

I'm almost 46 and will carry on wearing what the hell I want inc band shirts.

Works both ways too - my dds friend (they're 17) has schooled a few daft commentators on her Duran Duran shirts (she's a massive fan, has all their music, watched interviews, got books, seen them live).

Dd loves certain 90's bands too - not quite to same extent.
