To think 9 am on a weekday is not 'early'

pannikin · 11/04/2018 11:11

Yesterday I took in an amazon package for next door, which happens to be a student house. I don't mind as they've taken stuff in for me before.
I tried to take it round last night but no answer.
I tried again this morning, after the school run at about 9 am and one of the girls who lives there answered the door, took the package but said 'oh it's a bit early for knocking on the door'. I did point out that it's 9 am!
So, WIBU to take the parcel at 9 am?! Not a student bashing thread before any jumps on me - I was one until a few months ago, hence why we live in an area with lots of students as good location to uni.

Of course YANBU!

Babymamamama · 11/04/2018 11:14

Wow talk about entitled. Did she even thank you?

Grassyass · 11/04/2018 11:14

I don't know any student who will be up at 9am unless they have a 9am lecture Grin.
Actually most of them will be on Easter break now anyway.
I know when I take DS back to uni next week we will be asked to tip toe and be quiet if we arrive before 1pm.

scaryteacher · 11/04/2018 11:14

YANBU, but the university term for my ds doesn't restart until the 23rd April.

JessicaJonesJacket · 11/04/2018 11:15

I'm usually up from 6.30am so it's not that I think 9am is early but I still wouldn't knock on a neighbour's door at 9am. If we take parcels in, I knock on their doors about 11am or in the evening.

Papplewapplewoo · 11/04/2018 11:15

Yanbu.
I’m a student (a perpetual one at that!)
I leave for placement at 645 and had to leave to get to my 830 am lectures before 7 so I could pick up my friend and we could take dcs to childcare?
Weird

MirandaWest · 11/04/2018 11:17

9am isn’t really early but I probably wouldn’t take a parcel round then. Not sure why

Letseatgrandma · 11/04/2018 11:17

I can’t imagine many students are there as it’s the Easter holiday!

I’m a teacher and I wasn’t up at 9am this morning-it’s the holiday.

pannikin · 11/04/2018 11:18

Maybe that's why I didn't get an answer last night as there's only one there. There's two who live there with cars, and there's only been one car there over the last couple of weeks. I forgot about their holidays - I'm back on DC's schedule now!

I wouldnt say 9am on a weekend was that early either but I have been up since seven got two children up and done the school run what would I know Hmm

pannikin · 11/04/2018 11:19

Letseat it's not the holiday everywhere. My DC went back yesterday.

As a fully functioning adult who wakes at 6am (and prefers mornings), YANBU.

However, I do remember my student years and would happily sleep in until 2pm given the chance, so I don't think she was BU either.

Glumglowworm · 11/04/2018 11:20

I’m at least ten years older than most students and I would think 9am was quite early on a day I’m not working. I wouldn’t have said anything to you though since you’d done me a favour taking in the parcel

But i wouldn’t call or knock the door of a student at 9am! The only students normally up at that time will be ones with 9am lectures, and since most university’s will currently on easter holidays, they won’t even have lectures.

Appuskidu · 11/04/2018 11:21

Letseat it's not the holiday everywhere. My DC went back yesterday.

Surely most universities are still off though?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 11/04/2018 11:22

Yeah, it is pretty early for anyone without kids/who doesn't work the typical 9-5.
I'm disabled so can't work, and i'm usually only just going to bed by 6am since all my online friends are from a different time zone which i've kind of adopted, so 9am would seriously annoy me being woken up.

pannikin · 11/04/2018 11:23

Appus I know that, I was referring to Letseat saying she's a teacher and off. So talking about kids school holidays.
I won't take it next time then - they can come get it

JeNeBaguetteRien · 11/04/2018 11:25

I wouldn't go to anyone's house at 9am (unless prearranged).
In a student house the parcel might not even have been for the girl who answered the door, though good manners dictate she should have thanked you.
It was kind to take in the parcel though. I always do for neighbours but wouldn't go to their house at 9am, and would not appreciate them coming to collect a parcel from me at that time if I were off work.

I know a lot if people will say they are up at 6am and 9am is not early at all but I'd say I wouldn't go before 10:30/11:00am and not after 8:30pm. And if I didn't want a parcel in my porch then I'd politely decline.

WeAllHaveWings · 11/04/2018 11:29

9am is not early if you are a parent with young kids, are working, or have a pre arranged appointment or somewhere to be..

Before children I would have been unlikely to be out of bed by 9am if I didn't need to be.

For other people it is easily almost likely to be within the realms of a bit early so YABU to not have considered this, they'll either be enjoying a lie in or maybe not showered and dressed yet.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 11/04/2018 11:30

When I was a student I would have thought 9am was the middle of the night.

But no, YANBU.

Letseatgrandma · 11/04/2018 11:32

I was referring to Letseat saying she's a teacher and off. So talking about kids school holidays.

I wasn’t saying that because I’m a teacher, it’s MUST be the school holidays everywhere in the world Hmm.

My point was that when I’m off (like today)-I’m probably still asleep at 9am, just like those university students!

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/04/2018 11:32

I’m a lecturer so on Easter holidays - I was asleep at 9am, and currently watching daytime TV in my pyjamas still! I’m usually up at 6.30. I would have thanked you for the parcel and not said anything about the time.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 11/04/2018 11:32

The majority of MN always say it's not early and they're well up for the day every time someone posts about this.

It just depends on your lifestyle and routine. If you have kids, work or are naturally an early riser then yes, 9am will be well into the day for you.

If you're not, or you're a student (stereotype but an accurate one from current experience!!) Then it will be fairly early. I personally like waking up around 8am now as the area doesn't wake up til around midday. Because it's mostly a student area. It's just how everyone lives.

LittleLionMansMummy · 11/04/2018 11:33

Yanbu. You did them a favour by taking it in and dropping it around. The correct response would have been "thank you". When we take parcels in we wait for them to collect usually. Might be an idea in future.

Serialweightwatcher · 11/04/2018 11:33

YANBU but I can understand some students, being young, will probably stay in bed until lunchtime if not having to go anywhere ... she could have just said 'thank you' though.

MiddlingMum · 11/04/2018 11:33

Asleep or not she should have been grateful that you'd taken the parcel round and not mentioned the time.

No problem for her to go back to bed if she wants to.
