Travel lodge. Am fucking fuming

IAmNoAngel · 11/04/2018 01:05

I am currently bedding down in the car park of the travel lodge at Birch services on the M62 as the room I booked and paid for over a month ago has been double booked and there are no rooms left.

Am especially pissed off as have driven here straight after a 6.30 start this morning and a long day at work... in Nottingham. So a nice tiring drive as well.

I have stayed here a lot. I never will again. Cunts.

Whilst I agree Tavellodgeare c**ts for doing this type of thing, I don't understand why OP was 'bedding down' in her car.
Travellodge have two hotels at Birch services. (East and West) There are also hotels in Bury, Whitefield and Chadderton not far away at all. Surely they are not all full on an ordinary weekday night?

catinapoolofsunshine · 11/04/2018 06:57

Sounds as though this Travel Lodge failed to carry out company policy by offering a taxi to the alternative location. If a taxi had been offered OP wouldn't have had to worry about being too tired to drive there/ road closures/ getting lost.

Compensation for failing to carry out company policy as well as a refund.

I was sent to another travel lodge when travelling alone with an 11 month old baby 12 years ago. Since then I regard booking a travel lodge as worthless - if booking ahead doesn't get you a room, why book?

Better not bother to book and just pull into a service area, sit in your car and phone around to find the nearest hotel with a room and go straight there, rather than be obliged to get to the one you've booked when they are not obliged to let you sleep in the room you've paid for and might send you on your way to an alternative, meaning its an extra hour til you can get to bed!

VanillaSugar · 11/04/2018 06:58

Hope the OP is OK. That's Travel Lodge on my blacklist.

Fletchasaurus · 11/04/2018 06:58

Op this is appallingly and I just hope you are safe. Let us know if you are happy for this to go onto social media, there seems to be a good few of us with accounts!

MrsTylerJoseph · 11/04/2018 07:02

I’ve seen this happen before. Booked into a TL and the people immediately behind me were sent away. Was so glad I got through the door five seconds before them!

LakieLady · 11/04/2018 07:06

Hope you're ok and managed to get some sleep, OP.

Bloody disgusting practice on the part of Travel Lodge, and other hotels that do it, and I really hope the DM do pick this up.

HunterofStars · 11/04/2018 07:08

That is disgusting and I certainly won't be using TL again. Hope you're ok, Op.

BertieBotts · 11/04/2018 07:10

Common practice in hotels but they are obliged to find you another one you can get to.

Toomanytealights · 11/04/2018 07:10

Wow that is appalling, had no idea they do that.I normally use Premier Inn,will always make sure I continue to do so. Hope you're ok op.

Tinkie25 · 11/04/2018 07:10

Stocking behaviour from TL.

Hope they managed to sort something out OP and you’re okay this morning.

WindyWednesday · 11/04/2018 07:10

Wow! Dreadful company.

Sugarhouse · 11/04/2018 07:11

I’m furious for you OP this is not on if anything they should slightly under book keeping a couple of rooms free incase they have a problem with one of the rooms. This just shows they don’t value there customers and it’s all just about making as much money as possible to them

londonrach · 11/04/2018 07:12

Holiday inn did that to my pil once but found them and paid for another hotel. Offered them a free night the next night and some food vouchers. They wont impressed driving to next hotel. Im shocked they didnt offer you another hotel closer than the one they did. You needed to make more of a complaint. Hope you slept ok. Thats disgusting behaviour.

hayfevertablet · 11/04/2018 07:13

OP are you ok? That is just unbelievable, greedy sods. I have booked two nights in a Travelodge just yesterday and am thinking I might cancel it and look for a nice little B&B instead, disgraceful practice.

cafune7 · 11/04/2018 07:15

You ok, OP?

Cakefortea1 · 11/04/2018 07:15

I worked in 5* hotels and they do it as standard practice. I had to tell guests this many times on checking in. I felt awful. Always left to is receptionists to give the news and get the grief for a frankly bloody awful policy. However, we never let a guest leave without finding them another similar hotel room and paying for a taxi there! I’d have made up a bed in a conference room rather than let someone sleep in a car. That is awful.

Hope you are ok OP.

MaverickSnoopy · 11/04/2018 07:16

This is horrifying! I hope you're ok and get your money back plus compensation. I also hope you get a good night's sleep soon, you must be shattered!!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure never to use them. Far too risky!

WeAreEternal · 11/04/2018 07:17

This is shocking.

I was actually just about to book a TL room near an airport for a trip I’m taking in June, I was looking at prices last night.
Now I won’t bother, I’ll stay at one of the the alternatives.

Queenio24 · 11/04/2018 07:17

This is a disgrace. Why does it matter if someone doesn't turn up for a room if it's booked and paid for, they've had the money for it?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 11/04/2018 07:20

It's not a normal Tuesday night though is it, its Easter hols.

Disgusting treatment. Just greed basically, getting paid for the same room twice.

ScreamingValenta · 11/04/2018 07:25

Shock This is outrageous.

Crowd · 11/04/2018 07:30

It's hardly their problem there's road works and you can't get to the alternative hotel though is it?

I know it sucks and I feel for you OP but they've done what they can.

ChasedByBees · 11/04/2018 07:31

That is disgusting treatment. I hope you’re OK this morning OP.

Fintress · 11/04/2018 07:32

That is bloody awful. I hope you got somewhere OP. I haven't stayed in a Travel Lodge for a few years after an uncomfortable incident. I checked in on my own and my daughter was joining me later that evening. Around midnight we were sitting in pj's chatting and the male manager walked straight in, no knock nothing. His face was a picture when he saw the two of us. He stuttered an apology and left. Next morning I spoke to the housekeeping lady and she told me to report it as under no circumstances should anyone walk into a room without knocking.

I reported it, got a refund and a follow up that the person in question had been disciplined. To what end I don't know.

ChasedByBees · 11/04/2018 07:33

It's hardly their problem there's road works and you can't get to the alternative hotel though is it?

Of course it is if OP has an agreement with them for a room in that hotel.
