Travel lodge. Am fucking fuming

IAmNoAngel · 11/04/2018 01:05

I am currently bedding down in the car park of the travel lodge at Birch services on the M62 as the room I booked and paid for over a month ago has been double booked and there are no rooms left.

Am especially pissed off as have driven here straight after a 6.30 start this morning and a long day at work... in Nottingham. So a nice tiring drive as well.

I have stayed here a lot. I never will again. Cunts.

This is absolutely disgraceful OP. Agree you must go back in and refuse to leave; there must be a space inside they could put you. So sorry you are in this situation. I’ll never book Travelodge again now I know this is how they treat their guests.

Gazelda · 11/04/2018 02:12

OP, I hope you are as comfy as possible, and that you are parked as safely as you can.
If it's not too late, I'd be demanding a pillow and duvet, and insisting that they provide you with a private and comfortable bathroom to freshen up in tomorrow morning.
And then I'd be raging all the way to the top and making the biggest fuss possible about this. It's completely unacceptable for them to treat you this way.

Yarboosucks · 11/04/2018 02:12

Op… I feel bad going to bed (but I must…) I hope that you get somewhere to sleep other than you car tonight. Stay safe!

CrispyCrackers · 11/04/2018 02:15

That's terrible. Id be pissed off.

Flutteringkites · 11/04/2018 02:16

I’m gobsmacked. Horrendous treatment.

If you can get off at junction 17 - Prestwich, (a few miles from Birch) there is a Premiere Inn right there.

Hope you can find somewhere safer to bed down.

Kokeshi123 · 11/04/2018 02:19

This is awful. MNHQ, just a thought but is it wise for the OP's location tonight to be stated on the thread, given that she faces risk anyway? I wonder if it might be wise to edit posts to remove clues as to where she is located.

captainjackandjill · 11/04/2018 02:24

Would calls to the hotel from other Mners help at all? There is no way the OP should be sleeping alone in her car.

How absolutely disgusting of Travel Lodge to pull this kind of stunt! They are off my list as well, and will definitely be informing my travel happy DC.

Hope you're okay OP, stay safe and warmBrew

GentleJones · 11/04/2018 02:26

Bloody awful that rooms can be double booked.

Hope you’ve gone back inside OP and managed to bed down somewhere safe.

incywincybitofa · 11/04/2018 02:26

That’s awful I really hope they sort it.

SickofThomasTheTank · 11/04/2018 02:26

I hope the DM pick this up

tararabumdeay · 11/04/2018 02:28

Had to stay in a Travelodge once. It was obvious it was being used as a brothel.

eggcellent · 11/04/2018 02:31

Just seen this on twitter as well, what an absolute shambles! I can't believe they get away with this stuff. Please go in and kick up the biggest fuss you can OP, there is definitely something they can do for you.

HadronCollider More likely to be raped maybe, but men can get raped too, plus they are still likely to be cold, scared, at risk of other crimes. I volunteer with homeless men, violent crimes can and do happen to men without anywhere safe to sleep too. The point is they shouldn't be doing it to anybody.

VivaldisViolin · 11/04/2018 02:37

How can they be allowed to rebook when you have already paid for it? They will be getting the money for the room regardless. If there are any no-shows, they get the money without having to supply a service, change the beds etc. It's outrageous that they want to sell the room twice.

I wouldn't sleep in the car. Get a taxi somewhere else and make them refund you - small claims court if necessary.

thegreatbeyond · 11/04/2018 02:39

Glad I saw this before I gave the Travelodge another try after staying in a particularly miserable one in 1998. Won't be doing that now!

incywincybitofa · 11/04/2018 02:42

They won’t change their policy over this, it’s too lucrative and not too disruptive generally but the OP deserves to be compensation and they deserve to be exposed about what happens sometimes

Redglitter · 11/04/2018 02:46

That's outrageous. I agree with pp I'd be going back in and if there's no public area you can settle down in I'd be demanding a pillow and duvet. You'll be frozen in the car

GentleJones · 11/04/2018 03:00

Eggcellent, I can’t see anything on Twitter?

Alpineflowers · 11/04/2018 03:00

Take the managers name. Take photos of how you are expected to sleep, write down all the info and send it to the top people of the hotel chain.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/04/2018 03:04

Disgusting treatment. I’d be looking for a lot more than a refund. And I agree with others. This practice should be illegal. It’s unsafe and unethical. Flowers.

shereebobbins · 11/04/2018 03:04

How awful. Ancoats isn't that far away it's not the other side of Manchester from where you are now. There's a large hotel as you come off the motorway at Bury or one opposite direction from there at junction 21 at Milnrow.

HadronCollider · 11/04/2018 03:32

I agree with that point Rainbow 100%. My response was in regards to their policy as it stands. Which lets face it, is a crapola policy full stop.

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/04/2018 03:36

If be going back in, demanding a duvet and pillow and bedding down on a sofa in the lounge/bar wherever

^^this. Also check whether you need to pay for parking, as you will get a ticket if you stay more than two hours, to add insult to injury.

Totally totally unacceptable to do this, Travel Lodge, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You've got the money for the room whether it's been used or not. And if you do overbook, get caught out, and there isn't a suitable alternative Travel Lodge as in this case, you should be putting the victim of your policy in the closest rival hotel at your expensem even if it's the Savoy.
