To think this is a drug dealer messaging me?

For the last 6 months every now and then I get random texts like the ones attached, I messaged back saying please stop messaging me you have the wrong number, and it stopped. All of a sudden I'm getting them again, almost daily!

What should I do? Report to police, witty reply or just ignore?
I think I can block the number somehow (anyone know how?)

Or is it something innocent and not drugs Blush

@GardenGeek if you read the whole thread you'd know I have done so in the past, this has been going on for a while, I've asked them to stop which they did for a short while and I've also blocked a load of numbers but every few weeks a I get new numbers bombarding me with them again.

if this is happening with your phone, it is for a reason.
I imagine someone is using your phone to arrange deals.

It's just getting really frustrating no matter how many numbers I block or texts I send saying please stop it just happens again the next day / week from new numbers Hmm I got the phone just over a year ago brand new from EE it was a new phone number (to me at least) at the time. I think I need to change my number but that's really annoying as I use this for work and 100s of clients and previous clients who I'm not in direct contact with anymore but will probably call/message me again at some point will have this number.

Ugh. I had this when I got a new number too. Loads of texts saying things like ‘good stuff in for the bank holiday.’ ‘Super pure stock, get in touch’ ‘About if you need me’ blah blah blah. Eventually I texted back saying ‘Please stop texting. I’m not interested’ to which the dealer replied: ‘not interested forever or just for this weekend?’ Grin

Shock Grin bananas that’s amazing!

I do wonder if Mumsnet lives in the real world sometimes.

Op you definitely don’t want to report a drug dealer to the police then text him or her to let them know you’ve done that

Christ.

Rachbones1992 · 15/04/2018 10:49

This happened to my mum 😂 in the end we replied saying while we were not going to report my father works for the police so please stop sending. Heard nothing after that 😂😂

throwcushions · 15/04/2018 10:49

I once knew someone who had their number redirected without their knowledge. The person then attempted to access their online banking and emails..No idea if this could be a similar thing but I'd change my number if I were you

Bekabeech · 15/04/2018 11:05

Probably someone who is a good customer has a similar phone number to yours.

I used to get messages and calls for Sophie. I was a bit worried when I got a voicemail asking her to phone the hospital for her test results.

So just keep blocking - or if it gets too much, change your number.

The lemon emojis and Power Shine made me think it was a mobile bathroom cleaning service Blush I've lead a sheltered life

BackToTheFuschia7 · 15/04/2018 11:19

I think it’s someone you know. I would change the number (despite the massive PITA) and be selective about who you give it to. If it starts happening again after that, you definitely know it’s someone trying to wind you up/ bother you personally. Which puts a less funny spin on it.

Have you spoken to EE about it at all? You can often forward them on spam.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/04/2018 13:52

I hope they're up to date with GDPR and not giving my number out to other criminal gangs

As someone who is under the GDPR cosh at work at the moment this made me proper lol Grin

ObiJuanKenobi · 15/04/2018 14:00

@DontCallMeCharlotte so am I, it's all I've been hearing at work for the past 6 weeks Grin

Drug dealers frequently change phones so that they aren't traceable by the police. They have the same numbers on their 'mailing lists' each time they change phones, so unfortunately I think the only way to sort this is to change numbers.

If you take your phone into the EE store and change numbers, they can broadcast a message to all your contacts with your new number so it's not as much hassle as it would be otherwise
