Old thread here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3207431-When-a-nation-s-children-marched-and-their-President-ignored-them-Trump-cont

I’m all out of inspiration for the rest of this opening post. Send the St Bernard with the brandy please.

Could be the most appropriate thread title ever.

lionheart · 12/04/2018 00:42

The article is from 2016 so they have had 2 years.

'Trump is proud of his lack of “book learnin’. ” During the 2016 campaign, he bragged, as The Post noted, “that he does not need to read extensively because he reaches the right decisions ‘with very little knowledge other than the knowledge I [already] had, plus the words “common sense.” ’ ” In practice, Trump’s policies defy any kind of sense, common or otherwise.'

cozietoesie · 12/04/2018 00:47

It's news to me that he actually has real policies.

lionheart · 12/04/2018 00:52

He has common sense. Smile

cozietoesie · 12/04/2018 00:53

He has no common sense - he seems to be ruled by pure emotion.

Hello, am back from self-imposed exile halfway up a Greek mountain - great thread title, boatyard, thank you, I'm all for Gin and popcorn in the nuclear fall out shelter!
Anyhow, Walter Shaub (Ethical Person) tweeted this half an hour ago: "Dear @realDonaldTrump, stop and reflect on how things got worse for you after firing Comey. If you go after Mueller or Rosenstein, the reaction will be like nothing you’ve seen. America is stronger than you because our forefathers were smarter than you and they planned for you." Some of the responses are magnificent, my favourite being: "From your tweet to God's screen."
Retreating to peaceful Pireas, which frankly looks no different under Chinese ownership than it did before. My BP has been much better since I've gone cold turkey on politics, so I may be some time!

boatyardblues · 12/04/2018 06:29

I don’t imagine that Pireas looks any different either. It’s more that I was aware of China buying up/developing key infrastructure in Africa and South America, but I hadn’t realised they’d expanded into Europe in the same way. Obviously I am aware that some of our key companies are part-owned by Chinese investors etc, but I thought we were an outlier for foreign interest in our infrastructure because of our lack of regulation around who can buy our former state assets and UK property.

Sorry, bb, I forgot to put a Wink in after my mention of Greek Chinatown Pireas Grin. Interestingly (or not) there are vast more numbers of Chinese tourists here now than we are used to seeing in Greece. Also, the sand-pit which we call home is now extremely popular with Chinese, as well as Russian, visitors.
OK, am off again, to reinforce the crumbling walls of our Greek bunker.

boatyardblues · 12/04/2018 07:56

I feel the need to educate myself better about changes in Chinese society and their economy in the last 25 years, because they are certainly more visible on the world stage and at just about every tourist destination I’ve been to in the last 5 years. I’ve also noticed how much taller (similar to Westerners) the younger generation is, which has me reflecting on a recent discussion on Westminsterenders about relative poverty/affluence and impact on population-level health & wellbeing. So the prompt to look up China in the Med has sent me off in an unexpected dorection....

I also know China is trying to introduce Chinese Medicine in health systems in Europe.

My brother already works in a hospital that has been bought by Chinese investors.

African nations have started to realise how bad it is the infrastructure built by the Chinese, so not sure how it will pan out.
