I wasn't going to post another Colbert, but:

He knows Syria isn't a porn star name, right? Shock

And the lyrics to I did it Trump's way.

Trump will not surrender the presidency.

The two routes to take him out are Mueller and impeachment. Impeachment is currently blocked because Republicans hold enough power in Congress at present. In terms of this everyone is looking to November and mid term elections.

If we do get that far, which I think unlikely, they'll be some serious gerrymandering going on. Far better for Trump to provoke a crisis which prevents elections at all. It has to be big to achieve that.

Something that big also potentially blows Mueller out the water.

Starting a big war is the number one favourite here.

And no one is reporting on how advisers are disappearing at an alarming rate. There is no one left to moderate anything.

The chances of getting to Nov and those mid terms are small and shrinking. Trump would rather take us all with him than go down for his crimes.

Can't happen? Won't happen?

You've said all that dozens of times since Trump become president.

Its not if anymore. Its now when.

We crossed another rubicon today.

There is no going back. Dictators only go out in coffins.

cozietoesie · 13/04/2018 21:23

Oh Heck.

RedToothBrush · 13/04/2018 21:42

That's about the sum of it.

I'm not terribly hopeful at this juncture.

My suspicion is no nukes straight away, but a big cock up through incompetence will spark it.

cozietoesie · 13/04/2018 21:52

You have to ask yourself what decision Stanislav Petrov would have made if, in 1983, he'd known that 45 was in the WH.

Lweji · 13/04/2018 22:01

One of our national newspapers has asked a few people, including the Russian Ambassador, if there's going to be a WW3. He replied that Russia doesn't want it, but the US and the UK are working towards one.

Sadly, he's not too wrong about the US, not that Russia is blameless, on the contrary.

PerkingFaintly · 13/04/2018 22:06

I was refreshing my mind about Stanislav Petrov just today, cozie.

He's one of my heroes: the man who applied commonsense to what the machine was telling him, and didn't start the nuclear holocaust.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanislav_Petrov

Don't know it would have made much difference who was in the White House, though.

Quantumblue · 13/04/2018 22:08

It's not good.
I keep thinking of him feeling under pressure and having that big red shiny button on his desk.

cozietoesie · 13/04/2018 22:17

Sadly, I'm not so sure that that particular pressure would be unpleasant to him. He has millions of people on the planet - ie those who know what's going on - feeling apprehensive and waiting for him to act.

RedToothBrush · 13/04/2018 22:40

The difference between 1983 and now is the rational that a US president was. unlikely to want to start a nuclear war. Now? To the contrary.

From that difference its harder to assess a system malfunction as such. Your assumption is much more to air towards Trump pressing the button.

Which is part of the current fear: we know Trump is more than capable of recklessness and a disregard for consequences. He does not use rational.
