To want a shopping trolley at 27

theforeignwoman · 10/04/2018 11:36

I'm 27, pregnant and have an old knee injury. The fact that we don't have a car means I have to walk to and from (10 mins each way) the shops a couple of times during the week. Carrying a rucksack and bags is killing me so I have considered in investing in one of these:

www.amazon.co.uk/Sholley-Shopping-Trolley-Tartan-centimetres/dp/B018CWIUJA?tag=mumsnetforum-21

DP says I will look ridiculous and get strange looks. He also says they're only for elderly ladies. AIBU to want to get one?

I have one and I love it. Got it in IKEA originally, its a two wheeler that gets pulled behind you, red with cream polka dots. I couldn't give a stuff if anyone thinks it's naff or aging. It saves my back and means I can get more in a visit to the local shops without having to take a car trip.

ThatEscalatedQuickly · 10/04/2018 12:18

And as a poster mentioned above I got it when living in a French speaking country, very common there at all ages!

intuition · 10/04/2018 12:20

I don't disagree with the idea but would you seriously spend over £100 on something that you can get cheaper and more stylish elsewhere. Once baby arrives you'll have a pushchair to put shopping in!!!

CallThePenguins · 10/04/2018 12:21

I have one, have done since my mid twenties when we moved to Spain. Everyone here, young and old has them. Get one, they make so much sense.

Argeles · 10/04/2018 12:22

I had one in my early 20’s when I still lived with my parents.

My Mum and I would often go shopping together and would have to travel by public transport, and the trolley was a lifesaver - or at least an arm and back saver.

diodati · 10/04/2018 12:23

I had one at 20 when living in Paris. It was great.

We have a Playmarket Go trolley, it's fab.

£105!!!!!!!!!!!

dingdongdigeridoo · 10/04/2018 12:30

Do it. I had one before I could drive and it was great. Had a nice modern print so I wasn’t a member of the tartan trolley brigade.

Have seen them a lot around Europe. Women of all ages seem to use them there. Great for when you’re shopping at local markets.

CallThePenguins · 10/04/2018 12:34

The Go isn't cheap, cost us €90, so worth it though. We had a cheap 2 wheeled one for years before which finally gave up the ghost, we decided it was a worthy investment.
Also have 2 DC and one stands on the back bar and one sits on the front when it's empty on the way to the shops.
They are really popular here because they are extremely well made.

Bitsandboobs · 10/04/2018 12:47

I have one, had a few years so since about 28. I love it, so much easier than carrying loads of heavy shopping. Also, I really couldn't care less what people think of it. Like, really could not care less!!

Yogagirl123 · 10/04/2018 12:54

Go for it OP, they are not just for ladies of a certain age, young people use them for festivals, camping etc. On the continent they are very popular amongst young women. I brought one years ago as I was really struggling to carry shopping. Makes life so much easier.

PasDeDeux · 10/04/2018 13:21

I feel mean for posting this but I am 27 and really wouldnt be seen dead with one, and I'd definitely do a double take if I saw somebody with one under the age of 70! I wouldnt give you a dirty look though I think that is rude!!! HOWEVER screw what people like me think, if its going to make your life easier then go for it.
Alternatively, I dont know how practical it would be for all your shopping but what about a holdall with wheels and a handle, it would look a lot less inconspicuous?

athingthateveryoneneeds · 10/04/2018 13:24

Let's put it this way - is anyone who might judge you going to help you home with your heavy bags instead? No? Ok, then, your life is your own and you get to choose how to live it. :)

Bluelonerose · 10/04/2018 13:28

I have so thought about getting one of these ever since ds2 stopped needing a pushchair. But fear I would get laughed at. They need to do fucking designs on them so younger people would buy them.
Ide stop using my car as much too.

However I have brought a suitcase before as I had too much shopping to carry Blush

Bluelonerose · 10/04/2018 13:30

Funky not fucking Shock
Although that would soon liven them up Grin

PrettyLittIeThing · 10/04/2018 13:35

I have to admit I would also do a double take more because despite the comments on here I have literally never seen anyone under about 70 with one of them.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 10/04/2018 13:44

Loads of people round here have them (me included)
Mine is red with white daisies on it and was £7.99 from Home Bargains. I'm 41 (today yey!)
For that price i got it to try. If i use it alot ill buy a more robust one later 😁

SciFiFan2015 · 10/04/2018 13:44

The concept is not ageing. The trolley you've linked to into op @theforeignwoman is very ageing!!! So YANBU with the concept but YABU with that trolley!
I think versions that pull behind are easier to steer and you can get versions that fold up too.
OTOH get your DP to do more shopping and/or look up your delivery options.

yasmin0147 · 10/04/2018 13:50

We have two, we don’t have a car and lugging back groceries from town was agony so now we take them on our weekly shop, definitely wish I’d got one earlier.

yasmin0147 · 10/04/2018 13:51

Forgot to add I’m 25 lol

BetterEatCheese · 10/04/2018 13:54

My sister uses one as she has 4 children and can't hold hands with the youngest if holding shopping. She's 33. You can get some really funky ones. Also, you're pregnant and I think it will be fairly obvious that is a great solution.

SandAndSea · 10/04/2018 13:57

I'd love a zebra print one but would it be cheaper to get your shopping delivered?

SandAndSea · 10/04/2018 13:58

Ah no, I can see you can get cheap ones. Even so, deliveries are great.
