To let my 4 and 1 year old watch TV all day

I'm ill. High temperature, awful headache, and my throat is so sore it hurts to talk. I've tried setting up toys/ games for them to play with while I lie on the sofa feeling sorry for myself, but they keep whining for me to play too/ for us all to go out. The only thing keeping them quiet and happy is Cbeebies. Would I be really unreasonable to leave them to it?

When I'm poorly I my pre-schooler has to watch Tele! I can't play with her which is what she'd want

purpleme12 · 10/04/2018 11:18

She's watched Tele all day before when I've been poorly. Felt bad about it but I couldn't do anything else

Aeroflotgirl · 10/04/2018 11:18

Yes yes definitely, if needs must I say.

StormcloakNord · 10/04/2018 11:19

Hell no. Leave them there all day with periodical juice/snack breaks. Chuck some reduced easter eggs at them if you need to!! One day of laziness/TV won't corrupt their childhood Grin

CrispyCrackers · 10/04/2018 11:21

The only problem with that is that it might make them go a bit wierd later on. I’d try and get them to do something else interspersed with tv otherwise it all ends up not being effective. Do you hav3 a garden? coukd you get then out there for a little while.

Or a bath? With loads of toys?
Otherwise just do what works for you and if that’s tv then don’t worry about it.
Hope you feel better soon.

YANBU - A couple of days of telly while you're poorly is not going to corrupt them! Hope you're feeling better soon and manage to get some rest.

milliegeobotandyou · 10/04/2018 11:22

Im ill too and just leaving mine to entertain themselves.
Just stick the tele on and chill. Hope you feel better soon.

That1950sMum · 10/04/2018 11:22

Of course that's ok. That's why TV was invented. Let them watch as much TV as they like while you snooze. Hope you feel better.

BarryTheKestrel · 10/04/2018 11:27

My DD has watched more TV in the last 8ish weeks than she ever had before. Morning sickness has kicked my ass and being able to play (she likes imaginary, be a dog type games) /being far from a bathroom hasn't been possible. She hasn't been corrupted yet!

Hoohoohelp · 10/04/2018 11:28

I'm fine with the 4 year old watching tv all day. Just thought fine 1 year old might be too little for a whole day doing nothing. Will also try bath idea and getting 4 year old to "read" stories to me and DS2.

If they will actually do it then I'm sooooo jealous! Definitely yanbu.

milliegeobotandyou · 10/04/2018 11:37

IME you just might find bedtime harder because theyve not ran off their energy

Hoohoohelp · 10/04/2018 19:29

Had quite a nice calm day not doing much with the children. Now DH is home he has taken over trying to get them to bed. By the sound of things it's not going too well. Oh well.
