So what do I call Donald Trump now then?

Dotard, President Cheeto, President Stupid, Orange Turd, Asshole Mouth or Russian Puppet etc.

Can’t actually find the word Moron in the list although it seems it was coined by the Eugenics movement to denote an adult who had the mental age of an 8 to 12 year old.

nursy1 · 09/04/2018 07:09

Moron seems about the right mental age for Trump. ( sorry OP)

RedBlackberries · 09/04/2018 07:16

I can see how retard etc are offensive. It’s too resent. Like at school, spaz was a common insult as was spacca. I’d never use these words and it makes me even a bit uncomfortable typing them (my sister didn’t get the memo though and will still call use spaz but it an affectionate way like calling someone a dozy twat).

I just can’t see moron in the same way tbh.

On another note what about mong as in monging out on the sofa? It must come from mongol but it’s to describe someone a bit out of it just chilling instead of an insult. That’s still used pretty regularly.

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 09/04/2018 07:19

Can I politely request people stop using the word pop. I find it annoying when everyone is popping out or popping something in the oven.

Thank you Grin

howthelightgetsin · 09/04/2018 07:20

So if you’re not offended and people are just generally using the word as an insult rather than used at any particular group and it hasn’t been used medically in living memory, why your request?

TroysMammy · 09/04/2018 07:22

You'd be permanently offended if you dealt with medication. Quite a few tablets are followed by the word retard. It means delayed.

MissBartlettsconscience · 09/04/2018 07:23

Moron is derived from moros in Ancient Greek but which my phone can't do which means fool. Thomas More referred to it a fair bit usually by making a joke about it vs his name when he was renowned for his brilliance .

The euthanasia society may have co-opted an existing word, but they didn't invent it.

Idiot
Imbecile
Moron
Normal
Gifted

All terms which were used to describe people's intelligence.

Idiots and imbeciles having lower IQs than morons, and therefore should be more offensive.

Do you not have an issue with those words OP?

NorthernKnickers · 09/04/2018 07:26

@StrangeLookingParasite orange shitgibbon 😂😂😂. Love it!

NorthernKnickers · 09/04/2018 07:30

@Smeaton I think Americans (or possibly Australians?) call them 'thongs'...I just hear 'knickers' when they shout 'have you seen my leather thongs Marge?' 😆 (childish, I know!)

SparkleBuns · 09/04/2018 07:34

How about everyone uses whatever words they want, and people who are offended by them do a bit of self reflection onto why that is instead of trying to control everyone else?

Sticks and stones may break your bones but words can never hurt you and all that

RoadToRivendell · 09/04/2018 07:35

What would Murray Goldberg say?

Bugger off to your safe space, OP. Wink

coconuttella · 09/04/2018 07:41

Exactly! What’s driving this vocab policing!

Guavaf1sh · 09/04/2018 07:44

YABU. Language evolves

Who made you the word police?

geekone · 09/04/2018 07:49

What about Fucktard is Fucktard offensive?

EdmundCleverClogs · 09/04/2018 07:54

Whilst I disagree with the op, I have always found this saying ridiculous. Of course words hurt and can cause an untold amount of damage to both individuals and entire groups of people.

LikeARedBalloon · 09/04/2018 07:55

I just think the Goldberg's when I hear the word moron 🤔😁

Kirta · 09/04/2018 07:57

But how will I sing my favourite song? Jilted John - Gordon is a Moron?

Gordon is a thorough idiot?
Gordon is a nicompoop?
Gordon is a silly billy?!

What's to become of Gordon?!

Spikeyball · 09/04/2018 08:04

It isn't a word I would use myself because of it's connotations.
I do think that people with a learning disability being treated in discrimatory ways or hate crime is a big issue and words like moron being used as a general insult may perpetuate this.

JustDanceAddict · 09/04/2018 08:05

Words evolve constantly. Gay meant happy, no-one would say ‘I’m feeling gay today’.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/04/2018 08:06

That's very interesting about archaic meanings of Naughty and Nice.

Does Santa know?

Killybashangel · 09/04/2018 08:08

Lunatic is a good word.

Killybashangel · 09/04/2018 08:12

I remember a rather old fashioned physics teacher i had in about 1984 saying that a girl in our class's brightly coloured bag was 'rather gay." She also used to say "orf" for "off" which you don't hear any more. She was a sweetie
