But if I discovered that a word I used upset people I would do my best not to use it. What's so hard about that?
What a load of bollocks Bert! Not only do you routinely defend your use of the word "Handmaid" to describe women you don't approve of, you used the word "Moron" in a thread title not so long ago and defended it then despite protests like the OP's.Shock

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/04/2018 14:53

OP, YANBU to ask, but similarly other people WNBU to continue using it.

FluffyWuffy100 · 10/04/2018 15:19

I don't see why retard is any more offensive than moron, or idiot, or imbecile. Or even cretin.

All serve the same purpose - insulting someone who you think is, or has done something stupid. All come from medical use in the past.

Its a hanging offense to use the word retard on MN... but the others are fine. Apparently.

birdsdestiny · 10/04/2018 15:30

That is not the way I remember it Dionne if it's the same thread I mentioned previously. I think there was a discussion about it that went back and forth and at the end Bert said she wouldn't use it if it upset people. I try and avoid threads relating to disability where I can as often what I read astounds me, so that is why I remember that particular thread.

BertrandRussell · 10/04/2018 15:47

Sorry, DionetheDiabolist-as you know I have good reason not to engage with you. I'd be grateful if you didn't address me directly.

RepealMay25th · 10/04/2018 15:48

Hilarious. Not how aibu works. If you don't want people responding to you, don't post.

Spikeyball · 10/04/2018 15:54

FluffyWuffy100 retard is used regularly by people being offensive towards or about people with a learning disability so it is a word that I particularly don't want hear as an insult.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/04/2018 17:18

Ya wha Bert? I know nothing of the sort. Has anyone told you how internet discussion boards work?Grin

BertrandRussell · 10/04/2018 17:30

Well, they certainly don't work by sending offensive and demonstrably untrue allegations via PM. Or had you forgotten that shoddy little piece of work?

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/04/2018 17:43

Oh what a load of nonsense Bert. If you think I have broken any rules feel free to report to MNHQ as I previously advised.

In the meantime I will continue to address you directly on threads. Because that's how discussion boards work and I'm not really the type to talk about people behind their backs via PM.WinkGrin

BertrandRussell · 10/04/2018 17:48

You appear to have no problem with calling me a liar via PM and refusing to retract when I proved you wrong. But hey ho.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/04/2018 17:55

But that was a PM to you. As I said I'm not the type to bitch about people behind their backs via PM. And I will continue to address you directly on threads as I see fit.Smile

Morphene · 10/04/2018 18:00

dione Apparently you are the type to accuse someone of being a liar and refuse to apologise when proved wrong....you don't seem to have disputed any of that part of betrand's story.

Good to know! Its not overly surprising given some of the ridiculous corners I've seen you paint yourself into on threads. Sometimes its a lot less effort all around to admit you made a mistake - even if you can't do it with good grace.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/04/2018 19:20

No, I'm the type not to Me-rail other people's threads with vaguenetting because I was disagreed with.

HTH.Smile

It seems a dated expression, one I haven't used in years.

bigknickersbigknockers · 10/04/2018 19:55

Soon we wont have any words to use because too many people will be offended by them.

RepealMay25th · 10/04/2018 21:32

Humans are limitlessly inventive with their unkindness

And glory be for it. Do we actually want to live in a world where there are no words for negative thoughts at all? Where there is absolutely no acceptable way to point out when someone is being a cunt? Because lets face it, people are and will continue to be cunts forever more, and we really do need to words to say so!
It's 21st century Newspeak, imposed self censorship until nobody dares speak at all....

Morphene · 10/04/2018 21:44

hmm whether or not to open a PM from someone who doesn't deny sending baseless abuse to someone else via PM....yeah I think I'll pass on that.

FlibbertyGiblets · 10/04/2018 21:58

Repeal all I'm asking for is that would folk please not choose words associated with disabilities or special needs as the insult.

But no doubt some will prefer to criticise my grammar [see my prev duplet of posts].
