Are supermarket pick up points only for taxi’s, AIBU?

I did most of my shopping at one supermarket today but there were just a couple of items I needed from another supermarket. Dh was driving me (I don’t drive) and insisted on waiting at the pick up point for me ‘rather than try finding a space for ages to only be in it 3 minutes’
Anyway, as I got out of the car an older lady shouted at me from a bench that she was waiting on ‘you shouldn’t park there, this is for taxis!’ So I replied (nicely) that it isn’t just for taxis, the sign says pick up point and doesn’t mention taxis and I’ll only be two minutes. She interjected loudly that actually she is a lawyer and it’s for taxis only. Well I’m not about to start having a massive row with the lady so I just replied with a smile ‘are you? Well did you see that I’ve got out of the passenger seat? Perhaps you could have this out with the driver?’ And walked away. When I got back she’d been picked up by her taxi, dh said she’d been complaining to the lady on the next bench that it was for taxis only and again to her taxi driver, both seemed to agree with her. Now, my df is a taxi driver and assured me that it isn’t for taxis only but suggested that it was probably not great for dh to just park and wait there, he said I should get out by the doors, dh should drive to the pick up point and wait for me because then he is genuinely picking me up. I’m not sure I see the difference apart from those people watching me get out assuming were ‘parking’ for ages. AIBU? Please be kind if I am! Blush

Sponge I would be so ashamed if my kids where like that.

spongejack · 12/01/2020 11:12

But they wouldn't be would they @my2bundles you sound like a reasonable good parent.

I mean it would be different if the OP had a Ford Focus, she could park that anywhere but she has a BMW don't you know!

my2bundles · 12/01/2020 11:14

Sponge 😂😂

ZaraBMW · 12/01/2020 11:14

@ZaraBMW so se unity men at Tesco's (who won't even be employed by Tesco's) are the parking attendants as well?! I expect they were impressed by your BMW!

I know this is a zombie thread but @ZaraBMW this is hilarious

You've managed to get it all in your first post. Classic reverse

Or you're needing to lie down in a darkened room

@ZaraBMW sorry I realise now it was a BLACK NMW X6 and your user name is called after your car! Makes it so much more reasonable to park in the drop off zone. Also shows your not obsessed with your car, colour, make and model of the car are totally needed on this thread.

I'm off to name change to GloriaJuke , it drones me as a person what car I drive.

You'll not no one is agreeing with you BABY.

AmIthechristmasfairy · 12/01/2020 11:32

@ZaraBMW. I suspect the children want you to pick you up some distance away because you embarrass them

You don't sound very clever

Urkiddingright · 12/01/2020 11:33

It’s for picking up and dropping off, not parking and waiting for someone however long they will be.

my2bundles · 12/01/2020 11:36

Zara in those 20 minutes he could have txt you, or u him . You didn't need to be sat there for 20 minutes, after the first 5 didn't you realise it would be considerate to move? If you had done this at my local store the guys who collect the trolleys would have had security move you on.

my2bundles · 12/01/2020 11:38

Oh and the type of car u drive is not relevant to the post.

spongejack · 12/01/2020 11:51

@my2bundles of course the car is relevant it's a black BMX x6! I'm not sure OP would've mentioned it if it was a Blue Ford Fiesta. Of course it was not a stealth boast!

I presume she's been banned now, so we won't hear from her again. 🤞

LondonJax · 12/01/2020 11:54

How can anyone tell if a car is a taxi or a private car? Unless they have branding on them, which many don't. That's why some cab drivers send the registration number of the car by text - because you can't see they're a branded cab.

So she'd have no way of knowing whether your DH was a relative or a cab driver.

However, it's not an area for waiting - it's drop off or pick up, same as an airport and the only 'parking' allowed would be for the time it takes to load the car and put the trolley away.

spongejack · 12/01/2020 11:57

Sorry not OP banned I meant @ZaraBMW

LondonJax · 12/01/2020 12:04

But @ZaraBMW your argument doesn't make sense.

Where would the taxis and those who were genuinely picking up people who were actually WAITING for the car go if everyone parked like you did? You'd have cars lined up getting in everyone's way.

If I tell DH I'm going to be 5 minutes and could he pick me up, he parks in a parking space and texts me to say where he is. It's not hard.

If your DS was 20 minutes you should have parked in a space, sent him a message and waited out of the way. Otherwise you're holding up people who don't have the pleasure of sitting in their cars and need to get a lift.

Having a go at someone just makes you as childish as they are. But they did, at least, have right on their side as it wasn't a parking space - I would imagine the Tesco security would have agreed with anything you say if you're acting like that!
