Dog poo incident

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 14:17

I've just drove past a girl about 12 that let her dog poo outside someone's house and walked off. So I stopped further up the road and wound my window down and just said are you not picking that up? She said oh sorry and went back and I drove off. That was it.
10 minutes later a huge man knocked on my door and when I answered he said oh sorry I've got the wrong house, I asked who he was after, he said a name and said they've got the same car as you sorry and got in his car and drove off.
We never get people knocking on and I'm assuming this is to do with the dog poo thing.
I was in no way rude to the girl that is literally all I said to her and she was fine when I drove off not in tears or anything like that but I can only assume that she's gone home and told her dad/grandad and they have gone out looking for my car.
Now what? If he had anything to say he would have said it then so now I'm thinking he's going to come back.
If asked my neighbours to let me know if they see anyone hanging round and have also logged it with 101. I wish I hadn't of said anything now.

Waiting with you for any repercussions.

WeAllHaveWings · 07/04/2018 17:15

You logged an incident with the police because a man, sorry a huge man, knocked on your door and apologised as he had the wrong house??

You do know police resources are massively over stretched without having to deal with ridiculous calls like this?

What do you hope that call would achieve? In the extremely unlikely event he does come back and do something what does previously logging now achieve? Absolutely nothing, please don't waste police time with over use of 101 for non events.

WeAllHaveWings · 07/04/2018 17:16

I bet when someone rings 101 they answer will ‘hello mumsnet user what’s the issue today?’ Ffs

Chrys2017 · 07/04/2018 17:20

You did the right thing in both instances, OP (telling the girl off, and reporting the suspicious visit to 101).
If the person comes back just remain calm and explain what happened; "I'm sure you can agree that we don't want dog shit left lying around for our little ones to step in…" etc.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/04/2018 17:21

Ahhhaha, you've cheered me right up you loon

Gottagetmoving · 07/04/2018 17:21

I'm amazed 101 told you the man knocking on your door was likely to be connected to the poo incident.
The man was not threatening ...he was just big, and probably looking for someone but got the wrong house.
Big men should not knock on doors in case the homeowner may think he is a nutcase prepared to seek revenge for asking a girl to pick up dog poo?

Chrys2017 · 07/04/2018 17:23

The police themselves will tell you: "Trust your instincts – if it doesn’t feel comfortable then report it."
(actually taken from a police website)

loopylou6 · 07/04/2018 17:30

I highly doubt it's linked op. What would the man have to gain?

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/04/2018 17:43

Chrys.
Not where I live.
I had an intruder in my home and they pretty much told me I was imagining it, I complained about kids throwing stuff at my windows and was told I should report it every time but they've better things to do!

Myusernameisunique · 07/04/2018 17:45

If a strange man came to my door without a decent explanation and made me feel uneasy no matter what had happened earlier in the day I'd call 101 and report it. Always trust your instincts! It also means there's a report on file if anything sinister happens in your area and they think it could be linked so could be useful information for them. I hope it was nothing other than a misunderstanding OP but you definitely did the right thing in my opinion.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/04/2018 17:46

The intruder thing, my back door was open, there was a random tshirt on my couch and no word of a lie, a glass of piss in my kitchen.
My phone was also missing.
It was awful, but yeah, I imagined it.

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 17:52

Here we go again with the 101 mafia, other posters got here before you. Have you got nothing better to do? It's done now isn't it and I hope that you are all right and nothing does come of it.
I find it quite surprising that you would not connect the two things but there we go.

Meanwhile on another thread someone who HAS been the victim of a crime is held in a queue trying to get through to 101 because the lines are so busy.

Probably mostly MNers wanting to 'log' things.

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 17:59

Yes but you're forgetting that if it was an emergency they should be ringing 999 not 101.

Coconutspongexo · 07/04/2018 18:04

Someone’s got a horrible little attitude and it’s not the ‘101 Mafia’

TSSDNCOP · 07/04/2018 18:05

I think you did the right thing twice today. Yes, you were right to challenge the dog walker irrespective of age or any other factor. Yes, you were right to call 101. If you’re it car gets keyed up or you wind up with shit on your doorstep because if your previous good deed, the police will be one step ahead. And yes, there are people they react like that if one of theirs is pulled up for objectionable behaviour.

Coconutspongexo · 07/04/2018 18:05

Not every crime is an emergency btw OP so you can be a victim of a crime and not ring 999 Hmm I understand that you’re confused by what the two numbers are used for though

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 18:11

Not getting mixed up by the numbers. I'm just saying that there's a difference of being in a queue when it's an actual emergency compared to non emergency. There was no queue btw just incase you were that concerned the whole call took approximately 2 minutes before which I listened through various options to press which took longer than the call itself.

Tika77 · 07/04/2018 18:14

You were right ringing 101.

italiancortado · 07/04/2018 18:15

OMG you actually bothered the police because someone knocked on your door.

Maybe you should just get a cup of tea or something and try to be more rational.

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 18:15

Thank you.

OP posts:
gwenlar · 07/04/2018 18:16

Thanks Italian 😘

tvhearts · 07/04/2018 18:17

I think if the girl had given you some attitude maybe I can see why you'd he bothered. But think it's probably just coincidence x

WeAllHaveWings · 07/04/2018 18:18

If you’re it car gets keyed up or you wind up with shit on your doorstep because if your previous good deed, the police will be one step ahead.

Hmm yes, because they've errrm logged a number.....way ahead from if the alternative and the OP car gets keyed and she can say it might be related to a previous incident that day/week. Makes absolutely no difference, the only difference is if nothing happens then the call was a waste of police resources.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 07/04/2018 18:20

I think you overreacted TBH. There was no need to ring 101.
