Dog poo incident

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 14:17

I've just drove past a girl about 12 that let her dog poo outside someone's house and walked off. So I stopped further up the road and wound my window down and just said are you not picking that up? She said oh sorry and went back and I drove off. That was it.
10 minutes later a huge man knocked on my door and when I answered he said oh sorry I've got the wrong house, I asked who he was after, he said a name and said they've got the same car as you sorry and got in his car and drove off.
We never get people knocking on and I'm assuming this is to do with the dog poo thing.
I was in no way rude to the girl that is literally all I said to her and she was fine when I drove off not in tears or anything like that but I can only assume that she's gone home and told her dad/grandad and they have gone out looking for my car.
Now what? If he had anything to say he would have said it then so now I'm thinking he's going to come back.
If asked my neighbours to let me know if they see anyone hanging round and have also logged it with 101. I wish I hadn't of said anything now.

If they're the sort of people who don't pick up after their dogs and want revenge on someone for challenging them, it seems unlikely that they would be scrupulous enough to check carefully they'd got the right house before dumping dog poo in the garden or whatever they were planning.

Tiredofit · 07/04/2018 15:23

Unless he actually saw you speaking to his daughter then I'm not sure how he could have been sure that he had the right car. I can't imagine a 12 year old noting the make and model, never mind tha registration.

Huskylover1 · 07/04/2018 15:29

how would he have known he had got the wrong house just by me answering the door

Because if he was looking for Bob, you're clearly not Bob. You don't have Bob's face. Pretty obvious!

Lubyloo · 07/04/2018 15:32

My 12 year old would not dare to even mention this to me or her dad simply because she knows she would be in a huge amount of trouble for not picking up. I doubt the girl has said anything. If you had told our child to pick up then DH may well have knocked on your door - to thank you and apologise to you and to reassure you that we had had words and that it wouldn't happen again.

January87 · 07/04/2018 15:33

If she was walking past the girl I'd understand her saying something, but for her to stop her car, wait for the girl to pass and then say something, no, just keep on driving, unless like I said it's your garden.

I doubt it was related though, OP is just paranoid because she knows she was being a busy body.

CornyCollins · 07/04/2018 15:33

Seems odd to me too OP, I would agree it's probably related. Hopefully nothing further happens but if you find a large pile of dog turd on your driveway tomorrow then your instincts were correct!

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 15:37

But if he was looking for "bob" would you not ask for "bob" if a woman answered the door? Bob could have been in the kitchen for example. He didn't ask for the person he just said I've got the wrong house and I had to ask who he was after. It could have been the right house and the person he was after could have been upstairs or out if you see what I mean?

OP posts:
gwenlar · 07/04/2018 15:39

Busy body?! My kids play in these streets and don't don't want to be treading in shit!

OP posts:
gwenlar · 07/04/2018 15:41

I didn't wait for her to pass, as I got near her her dog finished shitting and as I went past she walked off and left it so I stopped a little further up and just asked if she was picking it up.

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2018 15:42

Not if he also knew Bob's wife, or you just didn't fit the picture of the Bob clan he knew; e.g. the Bob clan all have Scottish accents and you don't.

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 07/04/2018 15:46

OP is just paranoid because she knows she was being a busy body.

OP is not a busybody for this! I wish more people would challenge people who left dog shit on the pavement! It's absolutely disgusting and I would have done the same.

Ringing 101 is OTT though.

RavenclawRealist · 07/04/2018 15:51

So you think a 12 year old ish noted down the make and model of your car told a male adult in her life they have driven round the neighbourhood till they saw your car and then got out all to just knock on the door and walk off??? Doesn't really make sense dose it?

Alternatively guy is half paying Attention pulls up to house he thinks he is going to you open the door and he realises it's wrong so apologies and is in his way!

Forget about it and enjoy your weekend

Bettercallsaul1 · 07/04/2018 15:53

The OP was obviously feeling a bit panic-stricken at the arrival of a burly stranger at her door straight after confronting a teenager about anti-social behaviour. The two incidents may be completely unrelated but, sadly, it isn't unheard of these days for older members of a family to take up the cudgels after a youngster is "insulted" in some way. I would have been a bit unnerved by this too, so I sympathise, OP.

AstrantiaMajor · 07/04/2018 15:54

Maybe he was alarmed because someone told him a car had stopped and spoken to the girl. When a woman answered the door, he thought he had the wrong door. Quite likely the child did not mention not picking up the dog poo.

If a neighbour had told me a car stopped by my child, I would definitely investigate.

BewareOfDragons · 07/04/2018 16:00

The timing would have spooked me a bit, too, and made me 'hope' the girl had gone home and told a tall tale and the large male relative realized (hopefully) that his kid had stretched the truth re a threat.

As opposed to planning to retaliate for daring to tell his beloved princess to pick up her dog's shit on the pavement.

Coconutspongexo · 07/04/2018 16:04

I bet when someone rings 101 they answer will ‘hello mumsnet user what’s the issue today?’ Ffs

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 16:04

Maybe so. I'm hoping that you are all right and that's the end of it, we will see.

OP posts:
Notallthat · 07/04/2018 16:05

Did 101 actually give you a reference number for this or did they just give you some advice and get you off the phone? Surely a sensible thing to do would be to note his car and registration details and give them to the massively over stretched police if anything actually happened?
Its good you told the girl to pick up after her dog, I'd hope you would have been so proactive if it was the huge bloke too.

Vicky1990 · 07/04/2018 16:06

You did the correct thing.
However I would not open the front door unless I know who is the other side.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/04/2018 16:08

@DoctorWhatTheFuck - homes with dogs smell like they have dogs.

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 16:09

I certainly would have told a bloke to do the same as like I said my kids play in these streets and who wants to live around pavements covered in shit?
101 gave me a reference number with advice on what to do they also agreed with me that it is highly likely that the 2 things are connected. It's not like I've rang 999.

BrendasUmbrella · 07/04/2018 16:12

If the girl lives within dog walking distance of your house, why would her family member drive rather than walk to yours, given that his car would make him more identifiable if up to no good?

Maybe he's stupid?

Why would he bother saying the person he was looking for had the same car as you if this was a front - wouldn't he just say, sorry I've got the wrong house, and leave it there?

Maybe he's stupid?

MollyHuaCha · 07/04/2018 16:13

Let's hope it's unrelated.

craigglen · 07/04/2018 16:20

Calling 101 is ridiculous behaviour.

gwenlar · 07/04/2018 16:21

🙄 right ok.
