To think DBrother is unreasonable to stop anyone else coming in?

We've planned a family evening out. We all live miles apart now so it's rare we're all together.

There's a film I want to see soon and he's adamant he doesn't want anyone else in there whilst we (a family of 5ish), watch it.

So he's said he will be buying out all the seats so only we can see it Shock I know him well and I know he isn't having us on.

Isn't this unreasonable? It's a new film so there will be quite a few people wanting to see it.

Confused that's a lot of wasted money! Is he serious?

helpconfused · 06/04/2018 13:17

How can someone afford to do that?
That's insane. Would the cinema let him? Thinking as although the seats will be paid for, they would lose money in sales of popcorn/drinks etc

Leeds2 · 06/04/2018 13:17

Quite bizarre behaviour, imo, and not really sure what point it serves. And a complete waste of money.

zukiecat · 06/04/2018 13:18

Very strange behaviour

Who can afford to buy all the seats in a cinema?

LoudBatPerson · 06/04/2018 13:18

At most cinemas you are able to book a private screening, why doesn['t he just do this?

I imagine the cinema will block the booking if he just tries to book all of the seats, you normally have to contact them for bookings of 10+ anyway.

RedHelenB · 06/04/2018 13:18

They would let him. Can't see the problem myself.

Gibralter · 06/04/2018 13:19

I think it's a smallish searing showing so no more than 20/30 seats, although still a silly amount.

I don't see how the cinema could stop him as he will be booking online, I suppose

Nothisispatrick · 06/04/2018 13:20

Surely he is joking?

pinkmagic1 · 06/04/2018 13:20

He sounds a bit odd and like he has more money than sense.
What is his reasoning behind wanting to do this?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 06/04/2018 13:21

Really odd.

Unless he's arranged for them to stop the film and play some clip announcing his engagement/IVF twins/ etc?

Which would still be quite odd.

KiraL · 06/04/2018 13:22

If the cinema only had 20 seats then it's not that odd.

If it was the odeon it'd be mental.

FilledSoda · 06/04/2018 13:22

A small independent cinema might entertain that set up but they probably won't be showing the film you're after.
A normal big chain cinema won't do it because they would lose out massively on sundry sales.
It's a bit bonkers though isn't it ?
Is he a bit eccentric?

Gibralter · 06/04/2018 13:23

He is not joking. He is known for his elaborate shenanigans.

He's the type of man to do this sort of thing just so he can have the pleasure of thinking "aha, I've got something you can't have and I've done it because I can and want to"

He keeps family matters very close to him though and couldn't do enough for family and close friends

OP posts:
AtrociousCircumstance · 06/04/2018 13:23

Tell him to donate the money he would have wasted on this twattish enterprise to a charity.

Sarsparella · 06/04/2018 13:24

What a weird thing to do, you can book private screening if that’s what you want anyway & the cinema will at least know what’s going on/give you a standard fixed price rather than paying for individual seats

Is he usually so strange?

Allthewaves · 06/04/2018 13:25

Lol. Wouldn't it be easier for him to approach cinema to hire the place for a private viewing

Gibralter · 06/04/2018 13:25

Is he usually so strange?

He has form for this type of thing, yes

Katchit · 06/04/2018 13:27

A family of '5 ish'?

How does that work?

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 06/04/2018 13:28

Is it Infinity Wars? If so, then HINBU Grin

Weezol · 06/04/2018 13:30

Um, just book a private screening and also an appointment with a psyciatrist most multiplex cinemas have a smaller preminum auditorium for this.

I suppose waiting for the dvd to come out hasn't occurred to him?

TokyoSushi · 06/04/2018 13:30

Weird! Confused

Butterymuffin · 06/04/2018 13:31

If he wants to waste his money you can't stop him. I would just laugh. There'll be plenty of other showings if it's a new and popular film, so other people won't be that badly inconvenienced, and the cinema will get their money.

Juells · 06/04/2018 13:33

I think it's a lovely idea, if it's just a 20-seat cinema. Wink

elfycat · 06/04/2018 13:33

Yeah it's infinity war...

So jealous if he can do this. I can't afford to but want to!

Juells · 06/04/2018 13:34

A family of '5 ish'?

My thoughts too...
